2pm opener every day of the week. Good Beer Guide Entry 2023.

Single roomer, with various nick nacks applied to the walls. Some metallic chairs on the pavement out front. Back bar against the far wall as you walk in.

A first brew from the Tenby Harbrw brewery - a seahorse that didnt quite hit the spot. On the evening, I found Best you Best from the same brewery (in the Cambrian, New Quay) which was tasting far better.

Friendly owners.

I popped in to the small single roomed Tafarn Cadwgan on a recent Monday evening to catch the end of a Championship football match. This was muted in favour of some low background music, which was unsurprising as I doubt that any of the handful of customers had rushed down their local boozer to watch Hull City v Aston Villa. The interior is basic with a burner in a fireplace on the right wall and a small bar along the back wall. All walls are adorned with rugby memorabilia.
Available from the bar was a standard keg range alongside cask Bath Ales Summer’s Hare, Hancock HB and Bluestone Brewing Company’s Rockhopper. I didn’t see any sign that food is available here.
I found the service to be polite without being that welcoming, which is the case with most local boozers I frequent for the first time. I liked it and would gladly return.

Remains steadfastly a local alehouse. A flying visit inbetween my fellow walkers polishing off their pudding at the Harbourmaster found three ales on; Hancocks HB, Brew Monster Leviathan IPA and a superb pint of Bluestone Rockhopper. Got some good chat from the Brummie tourists sat out front (no Harbourmaster Guardianistas in here!). I think this is my favourite pub in Aberaeron nowadays, keeps things simple but to a high standard.

Small and cosy local, serving a couple of real ales in good condition. Watch out for the underfoot rumbling of the cellar refrigeration unit by the telly. Sport of some description is usually on, with some nautical-themed memorabilia scattered around as well as some fascinating old pictures of the town (the pub is named after the last ship to be built in the town). Worth a stop. Rated 7

Best pub in Aberaeron IMHO, but this small one bar pub is very much a locals hang out so the tourist does stand out like a sore thumb when you pop in. But it was always lively for our couple of visits and the locals were friendly enough albeit a bit noisy for the evening shift.
But then again it doesn’t take many in here to ramp up an atmosphere as there are only about six internal tables (there’s a couple of metal tables and chairs out the front ) and the only standing room is a smallish section to the left of the bar in front of the staircase.
But I braved fighting through the locals on a couple of occasions during our week in town because it had the best beer choice and best kept ales of all the establishments in Aberaevon.
There are now three ales dispensed from the small bar and for our couple of visits I sampled Hancocks HB, Donnington Brewery Cotswold Gold and Absolutely Madness from the Portobello Brewery and they were all in good condition.
In any other town this pub would be a solid 7, but it gets an 8 for being one of the very few places in Aberaevon not dispensing the ubiquitous Sharp’s brews..
