ROB Camra left this review about The Priory

Totally disagree with Mr Pool below. We found this to be a very friendly locals, local, with loads of old boys having a beer after a dominoes match on a Monday night. Three handpumps on the bar with two on. The landlord told us that current trade doesn't allow him to have all three on without the quality suffering. My pint was in good nick, so I can't disagree with his policy. We ended up having 2 here as Ms CAMRA thought the red wine was good as well. We called in on the Tuesday on our way back to the hotel and one of the beers had been changed, so a reasonable throughput. The new beer was in good nick as well. We'll call in again next time we're in York as it's a decent stopping off point between the city centre and our hotel.

Brainy Pool left this review about The Priory

I thought this place might be an old traditional York boozer from outside but sadly I was mistaken. it’s a bog standard, ripped out circuit pub with nothing really to recommend about it. York Guzzler and Doom Bar available on hand pump but no one was drinking them. Walk past it.

Steve C left this review about The Priory

I popped in to the Priory on a recent Saturday afternoon to find the pub reasonably busy with a local crowd. The bar on the back wall stocks a range of standard draught products and one of hand pumps was off leaving two cask ale options. I didn’t see any menus but I did note the offer of a burger and a pint for £5.95 which seemed like a good deal to me. This pub has a dartboard and a pool table that complement the many plasma screens that were showing horse racing and rugby.

From the events board: Monday, poker 9pm; Tuesday, free pool night; Wednesday, darts night; Thursday, free jukebox; Friday, disco and karaoke; Saturday, sports all day and Sunday, karaoke.

As a local boozer I found this pub to be perfectly acceptable.

Malden man left this review about The Priory

A staple shaped single room with the bar opposite the entrance on the back wall. The interior is pretty bland and modern, mixed seating including high tables and sofas, stripy carpet with a wooden walkway from the entrance to the bar counter. Little in the way of décor apart from the usual token B&W photos of town in bygone days, there was a pool table down one end. TV showing the horse racing muted. Three ales on, Doom Bar, Priory Pale Ale (Camerons), and Bradfield Farriers Blonde. Food served, Pie and a pint with mash or chips, £7.25, pizzas from £5.95.
The place is harmless enough but very ordinary, in a town full of superb pubs this place will not stand out and would not be on any sort of list for a revisit I'm afraid to say.

Old Boots left this review about The Priory

A wide low ceiling place popular with armchair sportsmen with its selection of screens and machines. There are four pulls with fairly standard, averagely kept fayre on the rear counter alongside the usual keg suspects. It's got various forms of seating including a sort of dining area at one end next to the pool table. Some interesting old photos of York provide the only decoration including on the discreetly hidden dart board. Probably not worth missing Brigantes for.

This pub used to be called the Coach and Horses and it was a Tetley tied house.
This pub has been opened out and now has one room with different drinking areas there are a few settees and the pub is fairly comfortable.
There were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Taylor landlord and this was a decent drink the other beer was John Smiths cask.
The pub was very busy early Sunday dinner.
