Local boozer near the busy bishopthorpe road. the pub did have three real ales and at £3 my pint of copper dragon golden pipin was in very good nick. the locals at first surprised to see new faces were very accommodating and welcomed newcomers into their pub and saw it as a good thing, more than can be said for other pubs in York. although i wouldn't go out of my way to return I would pop in again if ever around the area as the beer was very nice, regulkarly changes and is sold at a good price.

A rather simply furnished, but traditional pub on one of York's main arteries, but not on the tourist trail at all. Two rooms, both served from a central bar, one of which has a pinball machine. There were only about 6 of us in the pub, but the jukebox was blaring as if there was a crowd of 200. 6 handpumps including a real cider. My pint of Ilkley was in good nick. It's not one of my favourite pubs in York, but I'd happily call in again in walking past.

This pub was very quiet - in that there were only half a dozen people in there including the small PuG group who had become separated from the main group. The pub is as described by the previous reviewer. The pinball was "Fish Tails", not one of the best games around, but nonetheless it's nice to see a pub with one of these machines installed. The juke box was on too loud for my taste, but maybe I'm in a minority in that respect.

There were a couple of tall tables/tall stools, but the majority of seating was of the more traditional kind. This struck me as a fairly plain, and unpretentious pub. The ale selection was surprisingly good, but for me this wasn't one the best York pubs. But maybe I had been spoilt by the steady stream of superb pubs that I had already visited during the day.

This is a small and quite basic pub situated outside and opposite the City walls but away from the main tourist areas of York. The bar is central and effectively forms a divide between two areas, a long narrow section and a smaller "room" behind which only extends enough to form a passageway through between the bar and longer section. The TV was off, music played, slightly loudly considering the time and number of customers, further entertainment courtesy of a pin ball table. A rear door leads to a bit of garden. Beer mats ran around the room high on a wall, other décor included an Isle of Man TT flag pinned to the ceiling.
A few decent beers on, Rudgate Odin's Secret, Saltaire Blonde, Ilkley The Mayan, John Smith's Cask, Pennine Brewery Co Ale Trail plus a cider, Janet's Jungle Juice.
As said it is a fairly basic no frills sort of place but the beer and range were good and the service friendly. Worthy of inclusion on a York crawl but then again, from what I saw nearly all of them are.

A corner pub originally with two smallish bars now joined into one but retaining separate styles. One side is a long corridor like room, quite dark as there are no windows just a door at the far end leading out to the garden. Furnished with high and low wooden tables the L shaped counter takes up one side and it is home to a machine and juke box. Currently 3 handpumps with John Smiths, Copper Dragon and a guest, in this case Bushey's from the Isle of Man specially imported by a landlord keen on real ales, the pump count is planned to increase to five soon. The other side of the pub is a lounge which is better lit having an outside wall with windows, the big screen lives in here as well. It's a friendly pub and seems to have a good local following, it is away from the main tourist areas although not far from the cask honeypots of the Swan and Slip pubs.
