Steve C left this review about The Golden Slipper

To the left of the entrance of the Golden Slipper is a wooden floored seating area before the bar counter that runs up the left facing a thin strip of standing room to the right. At the rear of the bar is the Library, which is a small seating area overlooked by rows of bookshelves. To the right of the entrance is a carpeted sunken seating area and more seating can be found in the right rear. Regular live music is advertised for Friday Evenings and late Sunday afternoons. There was also live music advertised for the Saturday night, but during my Thursday evening visit there was just some background music playing. The barman was polite and my pint of Rooster’s Yankee was well served. The other five hand pumps were drawing Timothy Taylor’s Golden Best, Yorkshire Heart’s Blonde, Well’s Bombardier, Ainsty Ales’ Cool Citra and Weston’s Old Rosie Cider. Standard and premium keg were also available. I thought it was OK in here, but it was very quiet for a Thursday evening.

Called in again for a quick half to see if the beer had improved. It hasn't. I was served a very end of barrel half of Saltaire Gold. Shan't be bothering to give it another chance.

A narrow frontage leads to a long corridor with small rooms off to both sides. The ones on the right were all set up for dining as it was lunchtime. On the left there is a small open plan type room at the front, then the bar and then a small snug at the rear. The second room on the right has a dividing window between it and the bar corridor. Quite a few interesting bits & pieces around the walls and a dartbord in the rear right room. 5 handpumps on the bar serving the not very interesting selection of Old Speckled Hen, TT Golden Best, Bombardier, Deuchars and the slightly more interesting Roosters Yankee. I tried a Yankee. This was a very tired pint, not quite bad enough to send back, but not a patch on the one I had across the road at the Snickleway about 15 minutes later. It's a pleasant enough pub, but on this occasion the beer quality let it down.

A classic and ancient pub, apparently formed of two buildings knocked together so there are various nooks and crannies to the multi-roomed interior. Nicely traditional and definitely worth including on a York crawl. Ales on this visit were Ossett Yorkshire Blonde, Leeds Yorkshire Gold, TT Golden Best, Bombardier and Roosters Variations on a Theme.

An interesting pub to wander round, we enjoyed our visit here last month. The library room and other rooms are well looked after in this historic pub. We chose Leeds Calypso and Taylors Hoptical Storm from the ales available, both of which were fine.

Brainy Pool left this review about The Golden Slipper

Another really nice traditional pub with distinctive areas including the ‘library’ where I relaxed over a pint of Timmy Taylors. The smell of cooked meals was a bit overpowering in the bar and there was cutlery on most tables suggesting a move towards food here. But it was a lovely place to relax and the staff were very pleasant.

a very nice real ale drinkers pub down goodrumgate. There are usually five real ale avqailable and Cornish orchards cider on hand pull. usually Bombadier, golden pippin and Taylors golden best are available plus two guests. my pint of Golden best was a very nice drink here but expensive at £3.60. There are a few separate rooms of the main bar including a sort of snug and a jukebox that is usually on rotate. an all round good pub with good beer, highly recommended.

Blackthorn _ left this review about The Golden Slipper

A cosy old pub just around the corner from York Minster, it is split in to a number of different rooms and there is also a small, covered courtyard at the rear.

The bar counter is in the lounge bar at the front on the left and this is probably the largest of all the rooms. Beyond this was a small library room complete with rows of books on the shelves, and this looked to be a cosy spot although space was limited with only two or three tables in here. On the other side at the front was a cosy snug that apparently dated from the 15th or 16th centuries. The walls were exposed brick with black inlaid timber and there were leaded windows looking out on to the street. At the back was a small brick lined corridor which managed to squeeze in a small table and chairs, and this led to the last room which was perhaps more of a public bar in as much that it had a darts board, but it was still very pleasant with green wood panelling on the walls and a high shelf running around with a collection of old bottles and jugs as well as some framed coin collections on the walls.

Beers on tap were Half Moon Solstice, Timothy Taylor Golden Best, Mudpuppy, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and Bombardier. Ciders meanwhile were Strongbow, Olde English and Addlestones. All in all, well worth a visit.

Old Boots left this review about The Golden Slipper

No need to describe this pub as that has been adequately covered, six pulls, one appears dedicated to Taylor's with mainly Yorkshire brewers on the others. In spite of a busy pub the solitary bar man worked well and the beer quality was pretty good. Pump clips behind bar had a few too many Caledonian and Jennings beers for me to be impressed but there were also a lot of Ossett plus more interestingly a couple from Brass Castle and Idle. Makes part of a decent crawl in this section of the city.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Golden Slipper

Another good well run traditional pub and well worth a visit. We relaxed for a while in this pub and sat in the front room on the bar side. This part of the pub had a very noticeable sloping floor, there were also the original push bells along the panelling. The bar had coat hangers, which is another added detail that I liked. The manager was friendly and helpful, giving us directions to the Black Swan, which was next on our list.
The pub was busy with a mix of drinkers and diners, a lot of people were ordering the pie and chips. Five ales on handpump, we went for the Bradfield Farmers Blonde.
