this may be my favourite Sam Smiths house in York, a spacious traditional space with very friendly staff and the full range of Tadcaster ales on the bar. Horse racing images on the walls and an old chatty crowd when I visited. Well worth a visit.

probably the largest of all the Sam Smiths pubs in York, Informed that this was a conversion from a former boys home in the 1980's.The decor gives this pub a very warm feeling especially in winter when the roaring fire is on. typical Sam smiths offerings at their usual prices (old brewery bitter being the only hand pull at £1.80 a pint). My Pint of OBB was a little cold and a little new, a regular criticism for this place, the beer is usually hit and miss but mostly quite drinkable. Unfortunately for this pub like with many other Sams pubs the low price inevitably attracts undesirable characters at times that can spoil things for the majority of the usually pleasant regulars.

A good Sam Smiths pub just outside the city walls near Monkbar with the added bonus of a "tap room" featuring a pool table and darts board, nice enough pub for a cheap beer in comfort.

A two room Sam's pub on the outskirts of city centre. One room is labelled Tap Room and is a Spartan space partly filled by a pool table, furniture is at a minimum with a handful of mixed tables with a limited number of chairs and stools. There is also a dart board and a number of pictures of racehorses including the eponymous Brigadier himself. The lounge is well appointed with dark wood and leather seating. All the drinks seem to be served from here as the pulls and fonts in the Tap Room are apparently just for show, there are no optics, bottles or any of the usual paraphernalia on the bar back which is disconcerting. Usual range of Sam’s drinks, etc only, the OBB is cold as usual but drinkable.
