There was some building work going on here when I visited this week - the right hand side of the pub is being transformed, apparently into retail units, to judge by the size of the new windows. This is a 1930s roadside pub with the original layout of lounge to the left and tap room to the right, so if my surmise is correct this will leave it a one-room pub, though to be fair it'll be a fairly big room. There's a smallish bar but plenty of room to the rear where there's a small stage for bands. During my lunchtime visit there were three or four other drinkers, but any conversation was drowned out by the very loud modern pop music - all the drinkers were nearer 60 than 16, so I'm not sure who it was aimed at.

In the front part of the lounge, near the bar, there's comfortable seating and a small open fire. There are two hand pumps on the bar, but it's probably a decade or more since they were used. The keg fonts include Stones and John Smiths, but when I asked for Stones there was none on, so I had the JS Smooth Crap. This was cold and devoid of taste, as expected. This is not a bad pub, and if there were a real ale or two I would make the effort to come here again.
