Moby Duck left this review about The Riverside

Mid afternoon on a sunny Friday I found the pub quite busy, luckily I managed to find a small table spare on the outside river terrace , the outside space being the prime selling point of the pub in my book, this will obviously not be the case in the winter months. My pint of Red Willow Headless went down well and I enjojed half an hour sat in the sun but probably not a pub I would seek out on a regular basis.

The KSP of this one, as they say in marketing parlance, is the riverside undercover outside terrace at the back of the pub, with its interesting ship mural on the brick wall beneath it, (which is best viewed from the other died of the river) and the substantial outside patio section to the side of the pub.
I could see both of these were completely packed out as I crossed the bridge to find the front entrance for this pub, but it was still quite surreal to walk into a pub where virtually all the internal seating was empty but there was a still a scrum three deep at the bar.
Fortunately the bar staff were doing a decent job of getting through the throng and i soon found myself infront of a bank of three hand pumps with three True North beers on in the shape of First Blonde, IPA and Riverside Best and as try as I might but due to a large group of blokes being served in front of them I couldn’t clearly see what was on the other bank of four pumps, except for making out Blue Bee Tempest Stout, and Black Jack Snip Snap Snorum. I went for the True North Blonde which was a decent enough golden ale. There was also lots of shiney keg taps and there looked like a decent range of craft brews available as well..
I can see why this one is popular with the millennials, who were packing out the outside spaces on this particular late Saturday lunchtime.

It was very busy and rather noisy when I was here on Friday afternoon, with what I reckon would be a largely post-work crowd, mostly 30-something males. There are seven hand pumps, as far as I could make out with a crowd around the bar, four beers from True North and three guests. There were Tiny Rebel Mango Milkshake, Acorn Blonde and Squawk Crex. I went for the last named, as much for its very attractive pump clip as anything else, which was in very good condition (the beer, not the pump clip). It was very cold, and I reckon 50% of the people present would have been sitting or standing outside in warmer weather. This is obviously a very popular pub, but it has somehow never quite floated my boat. Others will obviously think differently.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Riverside Inn

Looks inviting enough to cross the river to take a closer look, and this proves well worthwhile. The riverside position isn't itself much of a draw since it is dominated by dull modern blocks of flats opposite, and it's now almost impossible to imagine what the view once was in the industrial heyday. However, the terrace must be a fine spot in the better weather. The interior has been opened out to leave a 'L'-shaped bar with alehouse-style furniture and decor, but a side room has been retained as a lounge. Also has a side beer garden. Decent choice of real ales in various styles from mostly local small breweries on the seven handpumps, and I opted for the True North Wyming Bitter (£2.90) which was in fine form.

This pub was the only one I visited on my day in Sheffield that could remotely be described as trendy. I would imagine it is a favourite with the residents of the modern blocks of flats that are replacing some of the old industrial wastelands in the area. It had some sort of a stage area that was being set up for music later that evening.
Having said all that it is a nice enough place and there were some interesting beers on the seven handpumps including a cider, Great Newsome Corn Dolly, Liverpool Organic Honey Blond and three Sky's Edge beers. I went for the Riverside Pale which was in excellent nick.
It was probably my least favourite of the pubs in this area but the standard is set so high that it doesn't mean it should be overlooked.

We've called in several times since my last review, in fact every time we've been in Sheffield. This time was no different with 2 visits over our 2 days. Tried 3 beers between us and all were in very good nick. In fact Sky's Edge Citra Smash is going to be my Beer Of The Week.

Improved a great deal in the last couple of years. Now has a decent range of guest ales on the bar and the friendly, efficient bar staff offered us tasters of a couple of the beers. Has great outside patio overlooking the river, which is excellent on sunny afternoons. The inside is now more of a bar than a pub, but it's all pleasantly done out. It's definitely worth a visit again now when walking between the KIT/Fat Cat & The Harlequin.

The riverside is situated across from the Harlequin. We popped in before crossing the busy ring road to the Harlequin. There were 7 ales on handpump on our visit. I went for their regular Riverside Pale brewed by the Brew Company. I also went for their Kraken Bitter. This pub was OK for a quick drink, but wouldn't be the type of pub where I would spend much time. More of a bar than a traditional pub to me.

An unassuming Victorian building which plays host to a modern café bar interior. This was once owned by Wards' as the colourful leaded window motifs testify. One large room inside with a couple of semi-partitions and a mish-mash of modern/retro décor touches. Located by the river Don though not necessarily the prettiest of river-side views from the terrace. Seemingly aimed at the burgeoning student market nearby and the vibe is much younger here which acts as an counterpoint to the regular Valley of Beer ‘names’. At the bar there were a number of local ales plus some interesting premium keg. My White Rose Best Bitter was in fair condition. As a pub experience it didn’t do a huge amount for me but it’s worth popping in as part of an extended crawl or for something different; at least they’re trying to do something with the beer so fair play.

The Riverside Inn has more of a modern feel than a lot of the other pubs in the Kelham Island part of town and is aimed perhaps more at those who live in the student digs on the other side of the river. The pub has a broad L-shaped interior with dark wood flooring and half panelled walls which are painted a dark red above creating a warm ambiance. There’s a good mix of standard seating towards the front of the pub where a number of people were enjoying food, and big sofas and chairs at the rear, mainly clustered around the grand fireplace. I found it difficult to find a seat as there were quite a few tables reserved for diners on my early evening visit so I had to take my pint out to the pleasant riverside terrace, which has a number of benches and a sofa. A small room at the front of the pub with banquette seating and exposed brick walls was full of people watching football on the muted TV screen whilst a classic indie soundtrack played and added to the student vibe. There aren’t too many interesting features in the pub, but I did like the stained glass windows at the front of the room. The pub has a function room upstairs and I had a quick peek only to find it full of balloons, presumably in readiness for a private party that evening.
I counted six ales on my visit – house brews Riverside Pale and Kraken Bitter plus Evil Genius, all from Brew Co, White Rose Best Bitter, Blue Bee Rugbee and Acorn Yorkshire Pride. My pint of evil Genius was lovely and shows that these guys know how to keep their beer, possibly meriting a GBG listing. Other options on the bar included Old Rosie Cloudy Scrumpy, Leffe, Belle Vue Kriek and Stowford Press Cider.
As others have mentioned, the pub is well positioned to include on any crawl of the area’s best known pubs and it certainly doesn’t let itself down in such esteemed company. If the traditional ale house isn’t your thing, this is a great option for this part of town.

More like a modern bar than a pub but still comfortable and the bar staff were friendly.

Brew Company Riverside Pale, White Rose Platinum Blonde, Empire Dog Days, Sheffield Tramlines, Kraken Bitter. There is some stiff competition around these parts, it wasn't one of our original must do pubs but still worth dropping in if time allows.
