Will Larter left this review about The Red Lion

This is an interesting and attractive pub, with some features that look original, such as stained glass in the front windows and around the top of the bar counter (see photos - alternate images of the pub itself and a red lion). The fact that the pub is not listed by Camra as a heritage pub suggests that perhaps some or all of these features are not original after all.

The bar has three hand pumps facing the front rooms, which have been opened out somewhat, and three or four more in the back room, which has been extended. Three beers on at the time of my visit: Tetleys Bitter (or Cask, as it is now called) in both rooms, and a couple of Christmas beers, one in each. The Tetleys was in good nick but a pale shadow of its former Leeds glory. This was a lively, friendly local and well worth a visit; it's only two or three minutes from the tram stop at Gleadless Townend.
