There are now two hand pumps on the bar here, with Old Speckled Hen and Greene King IPA available. The IPA was in reasonable condition, though it's not a beer that anyone could get enthusiastic about. At just £1.35 for a half pint I suppose it would be churlish to complain. I watched some of the World Cup cricket on the TV while supping it, so I suppose that, despite a slightly short measure in my glass, I got my money's worth all right.

A fairly generic modernish town centre boozer. An open plan place with a central U-shaped bar and the usual basic seating set around it. Lots of tellies showing horsey horsey nonsense. No real ale so you'd be much better off walking to the Old Queens nearby.

Handy for the bus station, but if the Queens Head had not been temporarily closed for refurbishment I doubt I'd have come here at all. There's a few steps from street level, leading straight into the large room with its horseshoe-shaped bar in the centre. No real ale, so I had a Ruddles Smooth, just £1.79 a pint, which apart from being very cold tasted much the same as its cask equivalent, i.e. of very little. There are three TV screens, which was handy as I wanted to watch a couple of races from the Cheltenham festival; also a pool table. It was quite busy for a Tuesday afternoon, so they're clearly hitting someone's button, but this is not my sort of pub at all.

The Penny Black was a Whitbread keg pub in the 80s and it still does'nt have any real ale on.
This pub is very close to the bus station so it is handy if your dying for a drink after a long bus journey. The pub has one large room and it is undeneath an office block.
