Will Larter left this review about Old Crown Inn

After closing for a few weeks for a major refurbishment, the Crown reopened in September with the old layout largely intact, but with a back room extended to provide a small concert room. There is an additional area of bar counter in there too, and there are now two banks of three hand pumps, one in the old front room and the other in the back. To one side is a small lounge or snug, and another area to the left is dedicated to the local football team, Sheffield United.

Beers on the bar were much of a muchness, unfortunately: Black Sheep Bitter, Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Kelham Island Easy Rider. I was here briefly on reopening night, when there was still a strong smell of fresh paint, and again the following week, when the same beers were still on offer - though presumably different barrels - so I assume this is to be the regular offering. It's still a nice old pub to look at from the outside, and the inside is still ok, but with a more modern feel to it. If an interesting beer or two is what you're after, though, the Cremorne just up the road is going to be a better option.

This is an old fashioned pub with the old layout of separate rooms retained. The small bar is in the corner and features a solitary hand pump, but although the pump clip advertised Abbeydale Moonshine, there was in fact no ale available. As our visit was on a Wednesday, it seems likely that they just have one barrel for the weekend and then let it run off during the quieter weekdays.
