Student-run it may be, but the customers (at least at the weekend) are a mixed bunch of various ages. The entrance has a second door inside, presumably to keep the noise and fumes of the A57 out, and the bar occupies the back wall just a few steps into what is a broad but not very deep room.

The bar features eight hand pumps, with one of each bank of four carrying a cider. The ales were from Acorn (2), Abbeydale, Great Newsome, Milestone and John Smiths. Service was friendly, but it took an age to pour my Barnsley Bitter and it was not as good as I know this beer can be.

It was quite busy when I was here (early Saturday evening) but there were still a few seats free. There was some interesting but (to my ears, anyway) unidentifiable music playing at a reasonable volume. I called in briefly at the York, just along the way, but it was so noisy I just walked straight out again. Maybe the York would get the vote at other times of the week, but given the choice again at the weekend, I would be back in here.
