Blue Scrumpy left this review about Impeccable Pig

I hadn't originally planned to visit this establishment on my crawl around Sedgefield, but noticing that it served real ale on WhatPub, I decided to enter and see what was on.

As it happened, the beer range in here was far more adventurous than any of the village pubs that feature in the Good Beer Guide. The two options were both from the Hartlepool-based Crafty Monkey brewery - Cloudburst & Reward IPA.

Service was on the slow side. As I arrived, numerous staff knew I was waiting, but decided to carry on doing other duties until somebody else also arrived at the bar and staff decided to sort out the backlog that was forming.

This is clearly an upmarket joint, with my half of Cloudburst not giving me too much change from £3, probably acceptable in London, but not in a County Durham village. Customers were mainly upper-middle class, with a couple of smartly dressed toffs appearing shortly after my arrival. They'd clearly had a few and it suddenly occurred to me that the local racecourse must have had a meet that day.

There is a galleried bar at the front of the building. A door led off the gallery upstairs, but to where I don't know. At the rear, was a dining area with an open kitchen.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this place, but full credit for the adventurous beers in a village where most pubs stay safe.
