Will Larter left this review about Woodies

I'd never been to Woodies before, so it was one that I'd intended to do some time during the Super League season. I chose a Friday night game for my first visit. Having parked my bike nearby and approached the door, I nearly turned away in the face of a wall of noise caused by about a hundred people shouting at each other to make themselves heard above the loud music. I persevered, however, and managed to make myself heard to the busy bar staff. I took my half of Leeds Pale (all the beers on the bar were pale) to a quiet corner, in so far as such a place existed here. I found myself looking at a sort of internal advertisement, or mission statement, on the wall behind the bar: "Famous for our 12 quality cask ales!", it proudly proclaimed. Well, there were 12 hand pumps all right, but two of them were for cider, and two were vacant, leaving just eight real ales: and all of them pale or blonde. I can't see myself returning here any time soon.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Woodies

Another excellent real ale pub, in prime position at the beginning of the Otley Road crawl route. This is a traditional pub, which had a good atmosphere and had some good comfortable seating areas. The pub also had a choice of seven ales across twelve pumps, not bad for a Wednesday night. The pub also had a choice of ten ciders. Beer wise, we went for the Naylors Trick and Salamander Vampire, Halloween week so hence the names.

Alan Winfield left this review about Woodies

Woodies is a decent looking pub that is situated at the top end of Otley road.
Once inside there is a decent sized single room with a long bar running down the middle, there is seating on three sides of the bar, there are normal tables and chairs to the front right and tall tables and chairs and bench seating to the rear.
There was a very good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Scarborough Chinook which went down well, the other beers noted were Skinners Betty Stoggs,Leeds Pale and Midnight Bell,Ilkley Pale,Saltaire Rasberry Blonde,White Rose Stairlift to Heaven and Ossett Silver King.
The pub was very busy with students on my Saturday dinner visit.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a drink in.

Old Boots left this review about Woodies

Most northerly of a group of three pubs at the far end of Otley road and presumably the starting point for the Otley Road Run*. An L shaped bar formed by extending an old pub backwards towards its beer garden. A Greene King pub, like the New Inn it had an own badge beer which I didn't try fearing it was probably IPA. The other five pumps had a mix of Greene King beers and reversed clips interspersed with T bars carrying the national keg range. In spite of the Ale House designation on the front walls it's a fairly standard modern pub with screens, a mix of boards and carpets, machines dotted about and interior design by someone who thinks adverts for the pub's food and drink offers are decoration. In addition to the beer garden there is a pool table. The front part of the pub does show some remnants of a fine old pub and the older punters set up in here while the Runners etc took on the rear and the garden.
* Otley Road Run, a long pub crawl along the length of Otley Road with a side road taken in, usually conducted by students from Leeds' universities, normally in fancy dress or fancy undress. Loud shirts and silly hats are also worn, permed wigs and running shorts are popular as are cartoon characters. I saw one team in interpretations of golfing gear with varying degrees of success from the excellent to the frankly crap.
