A strange pub just outside the town centre. It feels like it’s been recently renovated, having a fairly new tiled floor and new furniture. The building looks early 20th Century. The entrance is down a shady-looking side alley which appears to serve also as an ashtray. A young couple were doing what young couples do, so we carefully slid past them and into the pub through the side door. There is a single bar with a long servery in the middle. A bank of 16 taps dispensed 8 different keg offerings, while a stand of 3 taps claimed to serve Gorge Best, however this was not operating when we visited. At one end was a pool table and dart board, and there was a juke box. The best they had to offer thereafter was a pasteurised cider and bottled Pride. They apparently host live music nights, and possibly karaoke. There was a group of lads in, quite rowdy but not at all threatening who, to the staff’s surprise, cleared up after themselves when they left. The staff were pleasant enough but there was no real pub atmosphere. I shan’t bother seeking this one out again.
