Comfortable bar on a number of levels which has been facelifted up to a modern feel, belying the historic frontage. Several very large sports screens were a bit intrusive, despite the sound being off. Ales on were Leeds Pale and Wainwright. OK for a passing pint but wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Busy and loud at the time of my late Friday afternoon visit, this long, narrow pub is much as described by previous reviewers. Beers available at the time of my visit were Leeds Pale, Black Sheep Bitter, Wainwright and Marstons 61 Deep. My half of Black Sheep was ok, and at £1.65 was reasonably cheap for Leeds city centre. Not really a good enough reason to return any time soon, though.

Moderately busy on our Friday eve visit, with the majority opting for bottles of wine and continental lagers. Ale wise, the same three line up as Alan mentions, Copper Dragon, Leeds Pale and Doombar. Our Copper Dragon Golden Pippin was in good shape and service at the bar was fast and efficient. Overall not a bad pub and good atmosphere.

The West Riding is very handy for Leeds train station.
Once inside there is a long narrow room with normal tables and chairs to the front, the bar is on the right side and is up a couple of steps, there are tall tables and chairs opposite the bar,the rear area has normal tables and chairs.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Copper Dragon Golden Pippin which went down very well, the other beers were Leeds Best and Doom Bar.
There was some decent background music playing and the pub was quite busy on my late Saturday afternoon visit.
I was quite happy drinking in this pub.

Old Boots left this review about The West Riding

A long thin pub with three interconnected parts. There is light wood and imitation slate flooring in a front section furnished with tables and chairs. The counter takes up one side of the mid section with benches and chunky high tables and stools down the other. To the rear more seating. Big mirrors and artified pictures of Leeds form the decor and yes there's a trendy grey colour scheme and black lamp shades. Four handpumps bracketed by T-Bars carry a selection of local beers mainly of course from Leeds Brewery. The front and mid areas have big screens and there's constant music. Fairly busy with younger males on the Saturday lunchtime I called in. It's ok but not for me.

The West Riding is found just a stone’s throw from Leeds station and has a small frontage that belies a surprisingly large interior, albeit deep and narrow. The interior has the feel of three different areas, with the bar in the middle section. It’s mostly high ceilinged, vaguely art deco-ish in parts and for all the high windows and numerous mirrors is actually quite dark, probably not helped by the purple and dark red colour scheme. (I suspect the string of heavy ceiling lanterns were installed to try and address that.) Quite a variety of seating styles including wall settles, high tables and chairs and a couple of leather sofas.

Four hand pumps at the bar, featuring WharfeBank ‘Tether Blonde’, Saltaire ‘Blonde’, Black Sheep Bitter and Leeds ‘Pale’ on this occasion. Quality was mixed, a cracking pint of Tether Blonde, followed by a rather tired Saltaire Blonde. Service from the young Irish barman was brisk and friendly. Atmosphere wise, I couldn’t quite weigh it up. Although it was beginning fill up with post work groups when I called, it was still all a little subdued and world-weary. Maybe it’s to do with the size and layout of the interior? With that in mind I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the place. However, its proximity to the station and the four pumps at the bar are probably enough to ensure a return visit. Sometimes, places just need a little time.

When I worked in Leeds a few years ago this was a ropey bar called Bar Work. Happily it's now been taken over by Leeds Brewery, refurbished and renamed West Riding. It's a modern bar inside with lots of light wood and mirrors. The main area is mainly dining style tables and there's a table in the window for those who want to see and be seen. There's a couple of steps up to the bar area which has a few high tables and chairs. Three handpumps on the bar of which two were in use on Saturday afternoon selling Leeds Pale and Leeds Best. The Leeds Pale was a well kept pint. They also have a decent juke box playing music at a sensible volume when we were in, it even has Jeff Buckley on it. It's now a decent enough pub. Well done to the Leeds Brewery guys for getting this one back up to scratch.
