Old Leeds City Centre pub now leased by Greene King, whatever it was in the past about all that remains are the Griffins holding the foot rail, further back some vestige of an older pub remain but it’s fleeting to say the least. The tiled columns are nice additions the profusion of machines perhaps less so. Beer wise you have six pulls and unusually for Greene King as they normally keep their own beers away from pubs in Yorkshire, Greene King IPA is on one, Greene King Yardbird on another, Leeds Pale, Kirkstall Dissolution, Landlord and a coming soon on the rest. There’s a large old OS map of Leeds on one wall but otherwise it’s fairly interest free in here, maybe just a venue for the stag and hen parties that frequent Leeds at the weekends. Trip to Narnia like journey to the bogs.

The Griffin is a Greene King high street pub located in the ground floor of the former Griffin Hotel. This was a luxury hotel built in 1872 that catered for wealthy railway travellers, and there is a railway theme throughout. The building was awarded Grade II listed status in 1975. The long bar runs down the right facing benches that run between thick supporting columns down the centre from the entrance to the rear. Booths and high tables run along the left wall under the windows. There are some high benches along the mirrored and tiled rear wall and in the right rear some steps lead down to a sunken area with banquettes along the sloped white tiled walls. This area is akin to an underground station. Televisions are found throughout for airing live sports.
The bar counter supports six hand pumps, but only three were in operation drawing Greene King’s IPA and Rocking Rudolph alongside Butcombe’s Chris Moose. Premium keg is also available alongside a couple from Beavertown. GK’s food menu is in operation, the burger is £11. For a high street pub I thought this place was pretty good and I’d return.

This Greene King pub occupies the ground floor of some grand Edwardian office buildings not far from Leeds City station. It's a vertical drinking bar, to judge by the amount of furniture in the huge space. The bar counter is huge, with just six hand pumps over its generous length. As well as a cider there were Greene King IPA and a house beer, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Ossett Silver King. My half of Silver King was very good - at £2.55 it certainly should be - though in fact I got lucky as I saw a guy before me with a particularly cloudy pint of what I guessed was the GK IPA and made a point of going for something else. I was here early in the day, only just gone noon, and it was fairly quiet for a Saturday. There's no way I would even dream of coming in later in the day.

A large town pub with mainly traditional furnishings and a few modern touches, like shiny tilework. There are a couple of sports screens, but some nice corners to retreat to. A Greene King pub with IPA and what is presumably their House Beer on draught, but also TT Landlord and Tribute. It generally seems well run but I get the feeling the place could be horrendous on a Saturday night. Live music at weekends.

Called in this bar again after quite a while to find over priced beer £6.15 for a pint of bitter and a half of lager

Five or six hand pumps of which the best was Cascade Pale Ale @ 4.8% ABV. Just nipped in for a quick half while waiting for a bus to be confronted by a quite loud quiz which put me off a bit. Have been in many times usually to watch football on the TV.

A large corner pub. As its a Greene King pub I wasn't expecting much beerwise but was quite surprised to see a decent selection considering. Of the 6 handpumps only 2 where Greene King usuals. A large open plan interior in familiar Greene King-like decor.

We too noticed the Taylor Walker beer on handpump on our arrival, with a further five to choose from. We couldn't get through the door on Fri or Sat eve, so popped in on Sun afternoon. The pub doesn't really have any outstanding features. The various beer selection is worth a quick visit here, not really my type of pub to stay long in, however my Goose Eye Chinook was I good, so would call again.

Apparently this is Taylor Walkers take on what a London pub should look like. I'm not sure they're achieved that, but it's certainly better than Bar Censsa that it replaced. One large room with some semi circular seating to the left and the bar to the right. There's an open area to the rear as well. Pretty quiet on our early Friday evening visit, but only 2 of the handpumps had clips on them. My pint of Ridgeside Desert Aire was in good condition though. As we were leaving a couple of large groups of loud dipsticks arrived and about 10 minutes later so did the evenings bouncers. It was OK on our visit, but I suspect it's not one for the faint hearted later on a Friday or Saturday.

The Griffin is a decent looking corner pub that is very close to Leeds train station.
Once inside the main bar room is long and narrow with the bar running down the right side, there is comfy bench seating facing the bar, this area looked quite nice but was far too busy to have a drink in,there is a much large area to the rear which extends to the right, the seating is mainly normal tables and chairs plus some tall tables and stools, this area seemed more like a canteen than a pub.
There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,but it was too busy to note all beers,i had a drink of Ridgeside Jailbreak which was a very nice drink, the other beers i noted were Black Shep bitter and a beer from Salamander.
I would be quite happy drinking in the main bar area at the front at a quieter time.
