A spruce-up inside and out, having being purchased by a consortium of fireman and teachers. Perhaps a little of the old charm has receded but it’s not been over-done and still feels like a decent no-frills local. Unfortunately, despite being free-of-tie, they’ve done a deal with Greene King which means I come to Bury St Edmunds, not praise him.

Really, they need to use their loaf and get local beers in to complement their backstory of being a proper community pub.

December 2017 (as Sebright Arms)
An old school locals boozer straight out of the 1970's. The main room is quartered with a separate sports bar off to the right. Pool, darts and traditional games available, with rather over-loud music on our Saturday evening visit. No food available but you can bring in your own takeaway. Five pumps with four on; 2x North Cotswold and 2x Cannon Royall. My Cannon Royall Black Coffee was good and the North Cotswold fine. I quite liked it in here, and my local companion told me that the place has faced several threats of permanent closure over the past few years and that Canon Royall’s recent takeover is perhaps the last throw of the dice. With a bit of TLC this could be a really good community boozer. Let’s hope it gets there and doesn’t become another statistic. 6.5
