30/11/13 Appeared shut today further to visit a couple of weeks ago.

16/11/13 From my visit today it appears this pub may have just reopened, that's what it felt like. There was a for sale sign on the exterior with under offer attached but no licencee plate as you entered above the door.

Interior also seemed to confirm this as electric heaters providing heat with some ongoing botched DIY works being undertaken and areas that looked like they weren't in use until pub warranted sorting them out to be used.

Despite that it's a fairly large two roomed pub with small (unused looking) room to the left and the main bar area split with a front and back by a load bearing wall where the pool table and one dart board were. Adjacent to the bar is a small seating area and at the back what seemed to be an area solely for darts as two boards on the wall.

In all a pub that appears to need work to draw the local people back in but a pub that was probably as thriving as the rest in the town in better economic times.

The White Lion is a decent looking pub with hanging baskets and green things in pots outside.
The pub is fairly smart inside and there was three pumps on the bar i had Sharpes Doom Bar and this was probably the worst drink of this beer ive ever had the other beers were Wadworth 6X and Bombadier.

Soup Dragon left this review about The White Lion

A creamy rendered terraced cottage styled pub, with central entrance and patio

The interior had a pool room and a long narrow main room in yellow, with wood dado rail and beams, with an uneven floor. The walls had lots of old photographs and strange bits of ephemera, such as a scythe and a pitch fork on the walls. The service was good, the clientele regulars it seemed and the music mixed and at a decent level. I remember sitting on a high backed chair, by the front window, like Sherlock Holmes, as I relaxed.

Beer; tap stuff, with a decent Ansell’s MILD. On handpull, there was Wadsworth 6X (with the 6-eggs Easter version that I thought was a seasonal special – what a muppet) and a not so good Doombar.

I liked the pub, but then it sold MILD, so I was as happy as an ant in a sugar bowl. Sadly, the real ales were not up to much, but then, the Red Lion over the road is really where you would go for that.

Quinno _ left this review about The White Lion

Popped in here for some grub after visiting Keith Harding's World of Mechanical Music and finding the GBG-listed neighbour the Red Lion didn't do food on Mondays. Was pleasantly surprised on entering to find a fair range of ale (three mainstreams - I had a decent pint of Black Sheep, Degu had a good Bombardier). The landlord was friendly and although not overly busy, there was a pleasant atmosphere throughout the cavernous interior. Food was standard pub grub, my brie and bacon was decent and the scampi and chips of Mrs Quinno and Degu were of a slightly higher standard than usual. Service was prompt and we enjoyed sitting on the comfy chairs.

Not a bad choice, worth a visit (especially if hungry in Cricklade on a Monday!) or if you've made the effort to get to the Red Lion for few GBG ales and fancy a change of scene.
