Large and well-run Wetherspoon's at the top end of town in a former cinema. An enormous of film memorabilia is displayed around the multi-level interior, which splays out in a symmetrical fashion and is otherwise decorated in the familiar 'library' style. A good range of beers included several local examples. There is a dartboard to one side, which is fairly rare in Spoon's although not unknown.

This is clearly a cinema conversion when viewed from outside but unlike others it isn't so obvious inside. It's a large low ceilinged single room on three levels with the bar at the far end on the lowest level. It was quite busy on a Saturday afternoon.
I only spotted two banks of six hand pumps but that doesn't mean there wasn't a third!
Beers noted on the first set were the JDW Trio Of Doom, Hobgoblin, West Berks Mr Chubb and Three Castles Stoned. The other six had one available soon, Box Steam Porter, Ramsbury Same Again & Belapur IPA, Caledonian Fool Proof and Stonehenge Sign Of Spring. I went for the Belapur IPA (£2.50) which was in excellent condition.
Despite not really making the most of this building I thought it was a decent JDW.

Two levelled Wetherspoons, very standard, including the poor staffing. Good local beer choice though.

Somewhat less taken with this place on my return visit. No massive changes but felt dark and dingy inside, not helped by the klaxon wail of a small child not enjoying their JDW experience. Plenty of ales, but both that came out were fairly lifeless. They did at least have the good grace to exchange the worse of the two. Shame.

This used to be a cinema called the Savoy and was built in the 1930’s – the place retains a number of architectural features of that classic style as well as a number of film posters from the era around the walls. The main event is located down a few steps, opening out into a huge cavern with two raised areas which have bookcases running round the curved walls. The bar is huge and I lost count of the handpumps but I did note that number were doubled up, so I guess there’s around 10 different ales or so at any one time, along with the usual other Spoons stuff. The quality of the ales I tried were good. Perhaps the only thing that let the place down was a distinct lack of staff manning the bar. I personally found this to be the best JDW in Swindon, both beer-wise and pub-wise. I’d be happy to pop back here again. Rated 7

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Savoy (JD Wetherspoon)

Converted cinema, but only using quite a small part of the building which means it is not immediately obvious what its original purpose was. The elongated bar is located somewhere in the stalls, with no sign of what must have been the circle area. Bookcases line the back walls of the crescent-shaped seating areas which extend to left and right of the steps leading from the entrance. Exceptionally quiet on a Sunday night which meant there were as many staff as customers (if not more if you allow for some in the kitchen as well). 18 handpumps, and even with nearly half 'Coming soon' there was still a good selection of beers such as Batemans Autumn Fall (excellent value at £1.79).

18 handpumps, some doubled up. Not surprisingly (and despite it being 8pm on a Friday evening) there were 7 "coming soons" and all of these were the ales you'd most want to have, including some of the elusive scottish ones. How come Ruddles and Abbot and Pedigree never have "coming soon" on them??????? The Ramsbury Gold was good,as was the Tanglefoot had by the entourage.

A fair sized Wetherspoon's with a single bar selling quite a good range of real ales.

The Savoy is a Wetherspoons pub converted from a cinema.
Once inside it has all the usuall Spoons decor and cliental and also a decent choice of beers on the bar but i car'nt remember what drink i had but it was a decent drink.
The place was packed as it was Saturday dinner with people dining and drinking,my only reason for going in here was because it was there to go in.
