A nice village freehouse with a steep car park at the side and a reasonably sized garden at the rear. The interior is semi-open plan. There is a small games area by the entrance, which hosts a pool table and dartboard. The main bar is reasonably large, while there is a smaller room at the other end which seems to be mainly a children’s room. The décor is basic and functional, plain laminate floors and no fussy decorations or nic-nacs. There was no food available other than snacks. Two ales on draft, Shotover’s Prospect and another that I forgot to note. The Shotover was in excellent condition, certainly worth coming back for more. The only downside was that some of the locals were a bit miserable, but I wouldn’t let that put me off.

A pub that proudly promotes no food and after a chat with the landlord after getting spotted taking a photo it is a pub that bucks the trend and is thriving, building trade on being what a pub should be the focal point of a village giving people a place to relax and enjoy.

After the landlord let me in for a view of the place I will return and update my review on what it's like when actually open but it's one I'm looking forward to.

It is an evening opener so plan your visit to begin post 5 o'clock.
