A quick revisit after a long walk. Three ales on, 2x Butcombe and one I noted as ‘Twisted’ (Coventry?). Both my beers were in good nick. Being Sunday afternoon there was a heavy food emphasis but there were enough regular drinkers in there to maintain a fair semblance of pubbiness. Got time to have a look at the garden, very pleasant. It’s a decent little pub, this. 7.5

April 2014
Opened-out a bit but still some old touches like heavy ceiling beams etc. Two rooms, main wooden-floored bar at the front and a rear dining area. Dried hops above bar, wood burning stove installed in the old open fireplace. Rear garden advertised but didn’t get time to explore. Three ales, Gem (spluttered and died), Ramsbury Gold (very good), Otter Bitter. Posh softies including Luscombe Sicilian Lemonade. Friendly barmaid and atmosphere. A pleasant place in a lovely little hamlet. For the wallet-conscious who fancy cheap food after their beer, there’s a converted bus just down the road selling fish and chips. Rated 7

Changed hands in 2012, Closed on Monday's, except Bank Holidays, closed afternoons. From quick scan of their menu, take a packed wallet & smelling salts. See their web site,

We visited for lunch on a wet Wednesday in February

After a complete wasted time in the Cross Keys we came here, the door was locked but they spotted us and opened up

The menu is vary varied, but due to our diet limitations settled on Fish & chips. It was a bit pricey but woth it

Beer I cannot judge, driving you see. The coffee was excellent, as was the service

Update April 2008
It has had change of owner, lost it's chef and customers. However previous owner now back as manageress, and new chef [ex General Sir Michael Jackson's, who lives in village]and all back to usual high standard when we went last week

Seem to have put a few more chairs in so could be crowded at weekends
