Wadworth pub in the middle of Devizes. I'm not sure whether this was formerly a coaching inn or not, but a gateway leads to the outdoor drinking area to the right-hand side of the pub, whilst a door to the left of the gateway is the entrance to the pub.

The pub looked like one long single room with the bar on the left-hand side. However, reading the previous review, I maybe missed a room to the rear. Customers on my Friday evening visit were mostly those who had just finished work. Cask ales are 6X, Henry's IPA, Horizon, Horizon Chilled & Swordfish. Craft beers were Tiny Rebel Easy Livin' & Beavertown Neck Oil.

Deceptively large Waddies pub. Modernised but fairly well done - the rear room is quite cosy and they've put a canvas roof over the sizeable courtyard. Four Wadworth cask with Swordfish as the outlier so went for that and got a decent half (NBSS 3). Card payment only. Think this is worth a punt if you’re doing the town - with so many Waddies pubs this one of theirs is a bit more interesting. 6.5

A 17th Century coaching inn, currently owned by Wadworth, so all their ales are from that Brewery. The downstairs is open plan, with two dining areas joined by a narrow central bar. Outside, the former courtyard is now a paved garden area. Ales on were 6X, Henry’s, Horizon, Old Timer and Swordfish. The 6X I had was in average condition, disappointing given this pub’s propinquity to the Brewery. On entering, the welcome was at best frosty – the barmaid was unfriendly bordering on hostile, while the barman just ignored us. The customers were a mixed bag, mostly diners, and there was no local ambience. Given that this was not an enjoyable visit it certainly isn’t my first choice of pub in Devizes.
