aleand hearty left this review about The Little Bull

Inviting looking cottage style pub, adjacent to the Middlestown crossroads. A traditional interior, with low ceilings and exposed beams is divided into three rooms: The first, to the immediate left on entering, is small and cosy and houses a real fire. The second, just beyond the bar, has a dartboard and appears to double up as a music / function space. The main area, which looks to have been opened up down the years, houses the bar.

The local real ale ‘bush telegraph’ had being saying good things about improved choice and quality at The Little Bull (prompting our visit) and that certainly seemed to be borne out: Four hand pumps on the bar, with Bob’s White Lion and Rudgate Ruby Mild as permanent beers and Bob’s Chardonnayle and Ossett Gold as the two changing guest beers. Quality of the White Lion was very good.

The pub has had a bit of a chequered history in recent years, including a period of closure. That probably explains why the pub feels as though it’s lacked a bit of TLC in places. However, some signs of renovation would indicate that the current landlady (ex-Brewers Pride, Ossett) is addressing that. To her credit, the lively, friendly atmosphere, when we called early Saturday evening, being welcomed by both staff and locals, would suggest that it is a vibrant community local once more. Definitely worth another visit.
