Will Larter left this review about The Black Bull

Like most roadside pubs these days, the Black Bull depends on passing trade that is looking for food rather than a drink. As I was just calling in for a swift half to punctuate a bike ride on the first warm day of the year, my review will not reflect the quality or availability of food.

There are three hand pumps on the bar, and the local ale promised on the A-board outside turned out to be Leeds Pale. The other was Courage Directors, a choice that could not be much further from home. I went for the Leeds, and this was a quaffable pale ale, with not too much of the fashionable citrus flavours that are so prevalent these days.

The décor and furniture were in the modern style of fake retro, with some interesting B&W photos on the walls, but I'm sorry to say the background music was pretty annoying (some of the hooks were still with me five miles down the road).

I didn't feel too comfortable here, but as mentioned above, I wasn't here for a meal, and sitting in a posh lounge bar in what some might consider to be inappropriate cycling lycra would make anyone feel uncomfortable. Suffice to say, I won't be going out of my way to come here again. By the way, be careful to leave the car park by the correct exit - the "no exit" signs are there for a reason!
