Although the campaign to secure ACV status failed, there was some good news last week when it was announced that Ossett Brewery has acquired the Bingley Arms, from Star. An extensive refurbishment is planned, before re-opening in early 2020.

A fine looking stone building,so typical of West Yorkshire. There has been a significant refurb throughout and the main drinking area is to the right of the front door. This section has a significant amount of black flock wallpaper, more 70's curry house than pub and black lace curtains tied back.Even the bench seating has been covered in black velvet velour finish. At least it all matches.Towards to rear of this area is a dartboard, there are some free newspapers and a commitment to real ales with four handpumps working.Sadly the selection is drawn from a distributors list and are nationally available brews but the quality of my Jennings Cumberland ale was very high, care in the cellar is evident here.On the otherside of the pub is a lounge area in a lighter decorative style but not used at lunchtime.Opening times have improved and bar food appears available most day 12-2.Unfortunately commercial radio is piped through the speaker system and listening to a phone in with Jeremy Vine caused gnashing of teeth. However the highlight of the pub is the loo seat in the gents,an interesting art installation if a little disturbing.Pay a visit to check it out.

An imposing building by the canal with a pleasant garden in which to sup and watch boats go by. The interior has been refurbished and is, perhaps, excessively modern. Beer is well kept but from a dull selection with Jennings Cumberland, Deuchars IPA, Black Sheep and Tetleys Cask on. A decent stop for a pint on a sunny day but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Two longbars with real fires and a good selection of Real Ales at this pub situated between the Canal and the river.
Small car park at front and larger parking area to the rear.
Some outdoor seating for the warmer weather.
