The Hen & Chicken is a decent sized corner pub.
Once inside there is a single L shaped room which is bare boarded, there is a tall bench seat to the front which is pretty uncomfortable to sit at and a very long table and long wood bench to the front left, there is a small raised area to the rear left.
There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Arbour Blue Sky Drinking which went down well, the other beers were Purity UBU,Butcombe Best Bitter and Bristol Beer factory Independance.
Background music was playing and food being served.
A trendy sort of pub,but still decent enough for a few drinks.
Please note the the BT Masts on top of the pub,Jon put them up.

A few years ago this was a dark and dingy pub with an emphasis on sports and a slightly unsavoury reputation. Since then, in common with much of the surrounding area, it’s had a makeover and now has a completely different feel to it, and no doubt, a completely different set of clientele.

It’s really more of a café/bar type of establishment now rather than your traditional pub and this is emphasised by a selection of cakes displayed on the bar counter. It probably caters to lots of “yummy mummies” during the day and at other times there’s a mix of people reading papers, surfing on their laptops, couples eating meals, and maybe one or two drinking beer as well.

It’s got a light and airy feel with good sized windows on two sides, a U-shape bar with lots of open space around it, and a selection of chairs and tables dotted around the perimeter. There are lots of community leaflets and magazines around for you to peruse if you don’t feel like talking to anyone.

Beers on this occasion were Otter Ale, Doom Bar, Bath Ales Spa and Butcombe Gold. The solitary and very un-local cider was Aspall’s Suffolk and unfortunately this had run out by the end of the evening. I only wanted a half as I could only stay a few more minutes, but this was not possible. In the interests of good customer relations I would have thought that they could have perhaps opened a bottle and served me a half, but apparently not. Instead I went thirsty, and won’t be in any rush to return.

Another gentrified Bedminster outlet; suits, students and trendies are the main customers. Fairly large inside with a modern design, wood flooring, brass rails and big plate windows. Three ales on during my visit – Otter Ale, Bath Ale and Sharps Doom Bar. Quality was fair though prices weren’t cheap. Yeah, it’s not too bad in here, worth popping in if passing. I'd probably use it if I was local.
