Will Larter left this review about The Loose Goose

A pleasant looking stone built pub, with stone featuring heavily inside too, with bare stone walls, a stone flagged floor and a bar counter also made of stone. There were six hand pumps, but just two beers on at the time of my midweek visit, both from local Hogs Head Brew House. I went for the "6 - 8 Weeks" Bitter, which despite being given a pull-through to clear the lines had a taint of infection to it. Service had been brusque and impersonal, although there were no other customers, and I didn't fancy changing my beer and having to stay longer than I already had in a pub where I already felt unwelcome.

Still a work in progress, ie a bit of a building site in places. The interior has been remodelled with the removal of all internal walls and of course the unique character of the place. The counter remains where it was and has six pulls of mainly local beers, Elland, Taylors and Stod Fold being represented. The beer quality and service was fine but something is missing.

I liked this place despite it being a bit of a dive. 3 rooms as far as I could see and 4 handpumps on the bar. I think this place may be a laugh of a night.

This was our last pub to visit on our Sowerby crawl and have to say we really enjoyed it. The Landlord, Digger, made us most welcome and he definitely knows how to look after his beers. We went for the Stod Fold Brewery Gold from Keighley, which was a good session ale. Another advantage here is you're only around the corner from the train station.

The Long Chimney is a short walk from the train station, but away from the town centre.
Once inside there is a pool room to the front left, the main bar room is to the right, this room is oblong shaped and is carpeted and has comfy bench seating and small stools, there was a TV showing atletics.
There is a separate room to the rear which has a stage, which looks out of use.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Pennine Hair of the Dog which went down very well, the other beers were Elland Blonde and Wold Top Cow.
This is a proper unspoilt pub that is well worth a visit if in Sowerby Bridge.

A very traditional multi-room pub, internally half timber decoration, externally typical Pennine town grey stone. The floors are part carpet, part flag in the main bar, the rear rooms having a pool table in one and a disco type set up in the other, furnishing verges on the industrial apart from traditional banquette seating. The windows retain the BYB symbol of Bentleys brewery. The four pulls on this occasion had Doombar and Hertfordshire stranger McMullens AK, a lager a cider and a smooth were also available. The name comes from some sort of long underground chimney that passes nearby from a factory to a conventional chimney on the adjacent hillside.

It's actually really easy to miss this pub, especially if you always turn right at the bottom of the road from the station. It's a complete mess from the outside and needs some serious TLC to make it look welcoming. Inside it's a different matter though. It's been opened out a bit but is still effectively 3 rooms. There's a small pool room to the left as you enter and there's a room at the back with a dartboard which also looks to double as a store room. The main bar/lounge is comfortably furnished with loads of trophies on every flat surface along with a large tiger for some reason. Several handpumps on the bar but only two being used, but it was dead quiet as we visited on Wednesday at about 3. I had a pint of Bollington Dinner Ale which was well kept and the other half had a cider served by the friendly, chatty barmaid. It's a pleasant pub inside, so don't be put off by the exterior.
