A pub of two halves. Four rooms of varying size set around a central bar. There are two rooms making up the bar area, with oak beams and stone walls. The room at the rear and to the side (which looks like it may have been an extension to the original building)are more plain and set aside in the daytime for dining (our visit was on a Sunday lunchtime). There is a nice big new car park to the side as well.

On handpull there was Northumberland Lunatick and Full Steam Ahead (nice, dark amber ale) and Black Sheep (which was also fine). A large collection of handpull badges stuck on the beams indicates an ever changing offering of real ale.

Food was fairly basic and the service would have benefitted from a bit more training/ experience/ etiquette. If you don't expect too much you won't be disappointed. If I wanted to grab a quick Sunday lunch, because I couldn't be bothered to cook, it would be OK. If I wanted to take some friends somewhere nice to eat I might be a bit more choosy.

As a place to drink during the evening I would happily sit and have several pints. GBG 2010 entry.

This pub has a suprising interior with plenty of characture. A fine choice of Real Ales with 4 usually available. Good value food brings in mach trade (on my Saturday lunch time visit large numbers of dinners) with two area set aside for food.
Large car park at the side entrance located in Philips Lane.
This is a wonderful pub in the centre of the village app. 1 mile form the A1.
