Will Larter left this review about Red Lion

On the main road and just outside the town centre, the Red Lion is a late opener on bank holiday Monday, but seems to attract a few locals in the early evening. I had just popped in for a swift half as the bus times app had shown that my bus back to Wakefield was on its way. The pub is unusually set sideways to the road, with extensions in both directions making it difficult to orient yourself once inside. This is compounded by the doors marked "private" that are encountered on entering, and in fact a 360 degree turn is needed. (It looks like a couple of pub rooms have been adopted as part of the living accommodation, with the bar room extended to the side or rear, depending how you look at it.) The small front room has a small bar counter with no hand pumps on, but on walking through and round the corner I found a solitary pump on the extended counter with two or three people sitting in front of it. I asked the landlord for a half of his cask beer, which turned out to be a 3.9% pale from local Chin Chin brewery, named as Lions Den, which name is repeated on a little plaque above the bar, so this is a house beer. It was in good condition (NBSS 3) and slipped down a treat. There was a decent crowd, perhaps because of the young woman who was singing some of her own songs as well as some hits of yesteryear - she did a very passable version of I Only Want To Be With You in the syle of Dusty Springfield.

The Red Lion is a good 10 minute walk from the middle of Ossett.
This is a decent looking stone built pub that is situated on the busy Dewsbury road.
Once inside there is a U shaped room which has a low beamed ceiling and very comfy bench seating around the edge of the room and small stools, the room is carpeted and looked quite cosy, there is a separate narrow dining room to the rear.
There were quite a few pumps on the bar with a few having their clips their clips turned round, this left two real ales to choose from,i had a drink of Two Roses Mosaic which was quite a nice drink, the other beer was Bobs Brewery White Lion.
This is quite a nice and comfortable pub just a shame i was the only customer in on my Saturday dinner visit.
