Will Larter left this review about The Golden Lion

What would be a lovely riverside pub, if you don't mind a whacking great flyover (the A162), or an exterior covered in Wedgwood blue. The interior is listed on Camra's inventory of heritage interiors, and the bar is one of few to have maintained sash windows on the bar counter, though these have been painted light grey - though they are still in working order. There's a stained glass panel in the ceiling above the drinking corridor, and the licensee hit the light switch when she saw I was interested (see photos); there are some deep easy chairs in the corridor. Most of the internal doors have been painted grey too, though not those for the dining room, thankfully. I was made very welcome, but unfortunately there's no real ale despite the solitary hand pump. I was told that trade is too quiet to sell enough cask beer, so I made do with a Guinness.

We hired boats from Selby for some years in the 90s and this was usually the first pub we would come to. I had my first pint of Tetleys here so when we came past last month on our boat I was looking forward to a pint. However, plenty of hand pumps but no proper beer!
