Will Larter left this review about The Slaters Arms

A traditional village local, with rendered and whitewashed exterior. It was busy on a Tuesday lunchtime, and after being served at the bar in the crowded front room, I went into the back room to find a table to sit at. The bar had four hand pumps, with Timothy Taylor Golden Best and Boltmaker, plus Ossett Blonde and one pump unoccupied. My pint of Boltmaker was in pretty good nick, and I endeavoured to settle down and enjoy it, but I was distracted somewhat by a table of four Tories. I know they were Tories because they were discussing who they were going to vote for in the election of our next prime minister (which is not open to the other 50 million potential electors), and they were doing it quite loudly. One of them said, louder than ever, "I still like Boris". I didn't exactly splutter into my beer, but they must have noticed a change in my expression, because they half-apologised and changed the subject. I said, "I wasn't listening but I couldn't help hearing", which raised a smile or two. While thus distracted I had drunk most of my beer and completed half of my Guardian crossword. My notes tell me that there's a big stone fireplace to the right of the bar, and the pop music on the sound system was from the 1960s (Something in the Air, I distinctly remember), which made a pleasant change from the 90s and 00s that I'd been hearing in Yorkshire Dales pubs for a couple of days.
