This is a multi roomed pub, which is traditional in style and I found it to be very tastefully decorated. The main bar had low beamed ceilings and a low slung bar counter. The area along the bar was quite narrow between the counter and the tables, which was ok for us standing at the bar when the place was quiet. The staff in here were quite polished and prices were on the steep side, never the less, I did like this pub. I especially liked my visit winter time, when the fires are lit and the lamps around the place gave nice subdued lighting. Five pumps on the bar, we all went for the Saltaire Blonde, which was in very good shape.

The White Lion is a stone built pub that is situated at the top end of Hebden Bridge.
Once inside there is a single room with dining area to the front left, which was busy, the main bar area has some normal tables and chairs and posh looking chairs and tables.
There was a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Copper Dragon Golden Pippin which went down very well, the other beers noted were Black Sheep Bitter,Taylor Landlord,Thwaites Wainwright, plus one more i failed to read my notes of.
I was happy enough having a drink in this pub.

Smaller than it looks from the outside, this is a fairly standard type of town centre pub in market towns, the semi-posh hotel bar and dining catering to familes and older punters. There is nothing to frighten the horses in the beer line up, Black Sheep, Taylors, Wainwright and Copper Dragon, all reassuringly familiar to Yorkshire drinkers, the more interesting beer is White Lion Amber, a classic bitter brewed by Stod Fold so not perhaps that interesting but well enough kept. The keg line up is national brands plus a couple of wildcards in the form of Kozel and Ashahi. The space is broken up into several areas, all set up for dining, with a bit of an old world feel, the counter lines one wall of a long room running front to back, there's a snug behind that and a couple of rooms either side of the front door, more space is lurking down a service corridor for the toilets and kitchen. Decor as expected with old photos, old bills and photos of miscellaneous bit of architecture. Staffing also as expected very much in the cold, efficient, hotel style.

This lovely old building, slightly further up the hill from the town centre, has been done up inside with a slightly upmarket feel. The sort of place that you wouldn't mind taking your grandmother to, with smart tables and chairs and the sort of subdued atmosphere that you know someone is just itching to destroy by playing some loud and inane pop music through the sound system, and sure enough they did.

On the bar are five hand pumps, one the house bitter mentioned by ROB Camra below, the others Black Sheep Best, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Copper Dragon Best and Thwaites Wainwright. My Black Sheep was ok, though a little pricey I thought at £3.50 a pint. I'll return here when I hear that they've ripped out the loudspeakers.

Called in for a pint of Slightly Foxed, they had Roaring Fox on the bar which the landlord claimed was brewed specially for the pub. I thought that this was unlikely given the size of the brew length at Slightly Foxed and said so, but the landlord insisted it was. It turns out that it isn't (surprise, surprise) it's actually a mix of two regular SF beers according to Simon at the brewery. We then made the mistake of eating here and were served with some of Brakes / 3663s finest ping cuisine, including fake mash, it was crap. If you want to eat overpriced, bought in food then this is the place for you. Lot's of better places to eat in the town, so don't bother with this one.

Now reopen after a reputed £400,000 refurbishment. I've no idea where they spent the money as it looks pretty similar to before as far as I can see. Very much specialising in dining now, it was very busy on our Bank Holiday Sunday visit. Somebody has to pay for the refurbishment and it's you. The bar prices are very steep, even for Hebden, this was by far the most expensive round on the day. Having said that my pint of Slightly Foxed Prairie Fox was in good nick and the other half enjoyed her red wine. It's much improved since my last visit, but it will never be my favourite pub, it's too touristy.

I've been to this pub quite a bit in the past but this was my first visit for about 2 years. Sadly I'm not impressed at all now. The pub is generally very foody and as you enter you are hit by the all pervading smell of fried food. I think the oil needs changing guys, it shouldn't smell so bad. Both the main room and the side room off to the left are full of dining tables & chairs, so not very drinker friendly. Six handpumps on the bar with four turned round at 7 p.m. on a Friday, that's bad. I had a very average half of Copper Dragon Golden Pippen and left. It's hard to believe that this is the same pub that was in the GBG for years. Not a hope in hell of getting back in it at the moment.

Great find!

A large number of different real ales in a fantastic setting and a lovely building to boot. Food looked good quality.
