Will Larter left this review about The Royal Oak

Quite a nice looking pub, but inside it's been knocked through in quite a brutal style, leaving abrupt pillars and arches in a colour scheme that wasn't pulling any punches. Saturday afternoon and the lass serving was sat with her friends and had to get up to come and serve me. With just a few minutes before my nearby football match was due to kick off I swerved the beers - there's no real ale here anyway, despite a couple of porcelain handled pump clips - and went for a whisky, which cost me £2.70. Of the three pubs that I tried on this bit of Front Street, the one selling real ale was easily the busiest. Maybe it's different in the evenings, but it won't be me that comes back to find out.

Chris Heath left this review about Royal Oak Inn

A popular pub on the main road into Castleford from the M62 and on the route of the Glasshoughton Pub Crawl. 2007 saw a long overdue overhaul and refurbishment of both the interior and exterior. As you can see from the photo's, the exterior has had a paint job, taking it from red to green!
* Red exterior = June 04
* Green exterior = January 08
