I wasn't sure the pub was open, but when I tried the door it wasn't locked and the landlord called out to ask me to leave it open - he'd just been trying to keep the noise of the traffic out. He had just a couple of customers, and another turned up during the 15 minutes I spent here. There's no real ale, but the Worthington Creamflow was ok. Apparently he'd recently switched from John Smiths Smooth Crap (there's a clue in the name) and had consulted all his customers before doing so. For those who are not suited by the new beer, there are bottles of Hobgoblin, and also some chocolate fudge stout. Aside from these, there were the usual lagers and Guinness, but this was a pretty quiet pub for a Saturday afternoon.

The Glasshoughton area of Castleford has a wealth of pubs & clubs within it's small area. The Malt Shovel sits on the main road into Castleford and gets very busy both with locals and with those who enjoy the Glasshoughton pub crawl.
