One of my favourite Bradford pubs so I was surprised I hadn’t reviewed it before. It’s roughly two rooms partly separated by a wall running three quarters of the way across the pub, oddly for an internal wall it has a window in it. The counter runs along the back wall and is home to eight hand pulls spread in pairs along the counter with various solos and trios of interesting and mundane beers between them, the cask choice is mostly Yorkshire beers similar in range to that found by other reviewers and in excellent condition. The walls are in a mock half timber and are covered in much Bradford City F.C. stuff, Camra awards from this year and also dating back many years, the rest is humorous signs and of course pump clips on the ceiling. Banquette seating all round and there’s carpet, music is fairly constant when busy from a juke box on the wall and there’s a games machine. The right hand side has a pool table and darts otherwise pretty similar to the left side. Very handy for Foster Square station although up a couple of flights of steps, and not it’s that far from the city centre via the newish Broadway shopping centre. It’s a classic.

Unchanged from my visit several years back bar a new beer garden and more Bradford City stuff than I recall from previous. Six cask on over three banks of two. Boltmaker is the standard whilst smaller breweries make up the rest. My Selby American Pale was passable (NBSS 2.5) but throughput was lacking on a hot day outside the Boltmaker. It’s a nice traditional old pub, but a shame that the beer wasn’t really up to snuff. Hot days sort the sheep from the goats on the ale front. GBG'22 listed.

An old school two room (knocked through a little but ostensibly separated) boozer. Fairly untouched 70s refurb with ye olde black beams and plaster wattle walls. Copper topped bar and tables add to the effect. The left side was more quiet (look out for Bradford City memorabilia here), whilst the right had pool, a collection of trophies and a telly, tuned to Rugby World Cup on my visit. Hundreds of old pump clips everywhere, a testament to their ale range. Whilst we’re on the subject, there were eight on the go, I tried Moorhouse Ruby, Tim Taylor Boltmaker and Durham White Gold which were in very good nick. Friendly, mature clientèle who we got chatting to and one of them was good enough to return my keys which I had somehow left on the bar. As mentioned, it’s 10 mins uphill from Forster Square but well-worth the schlep. Taxis are also dirt cheap in Bradford. Rated 8

A great real ale pub on the outskirts of the city centre,it used to be called The Wharf in the days before the nearby Bradford Canal was filled in .The interior is traditional with a large open plan lounge,a second section unvisited by me with the bar running along much of the rear wall.Bench seating and wooden tables and chairs with plenty of pump clips around the walls and ceiling.Bradford City ephemera ,but the star of the show here is the ale range with 8 handpumps functional serving on my trip Vocation Heart & Soul (NBSS 3.5),Osset Excelsius,Abbeydale Moonshine,TT Bolt Maker,Phoenix White Tornado,Moorhouse White Witch,Revelation Swoon Chocolate Fudge Milk Stout and something I missed.A decent selection in a pleasing setting popular with real ale types and with a very good soundtrack,a must visit on any ale tour of the city centre.

As noted below this is an old open plan pub with a pool area over to the right. A collection of GBG stickers on the door leading to the toilets confirm a lengthy stint in that book. The walls are adorned with pump clips, Bradford City Football stuff and other bric-a-brac.
The long bar has four pairs of hand pumps interspersed with standard keg fonts. The beers available were Abbeydale Moonshine & Absolution, TT Boltmaker, Pictish Sorachi & Mount Hood, Moorhouse White Witch, GK Old Speckled Hen and Sonnet 43 Raven. I tried five of these with prices from £3.15 to £3.40 and all were excellent.
I thought this was a very good pub and well worth a diversion from the main drag. It's quite close to the Bradford Travelodge.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Corn Dolly

The Corn Dolly is a 10 min walk from Bradford Forster Street station, slightly up hill, but nothing too strenuous. The pub is traditional in style and had a choice of 8 ales on hand pump. I went for the Phoenix Flash Flood, a good session ale and a good start for the days crawl around central Bradford. The fellow drinkers and staff in here were friendly and chatty. Hundreds of pumpclips were on display along the ceiling beams, also photos of Bradford City AFC in the lounge side.

Great Pub serving 8 Real Ales, 2 draught Continental Beers, draught Cider, 3 lagers, numerous bottled beverages and Lunchtime food on weekdays to eat beside a roaring fire. Pool and Dominoes as well and a cracking good jukebox. Visit if you are anywhere near it. www.corndolly.pub

Very pubby, white stipped walls, red carpet, fake black beams, copper table, Life on Mars. A bit of a time warp, but its a comfortable beer hole out of the way of the city centre.

8 real ales, though slightly warm

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Corn Dolly

Very comfortable and traditional pub with a bar spanning two partially opened out rooms; the first with the entrance, and a second with pool, etc. Welcome coal fire and warm atmosphere to suit. 100s of pump clips and numerous local Camra awards. Eight handpumps, offering Black Rat Porter (£2.80) plus an excellent selection of other (mostly local) beers plus an Everards. Overall, a top spot and well worth seeking out. (NB - Review dates from December 2012.)

ROB Camra left this review about The Corn Dolly

It's a bit of a walk, all uphill, to get to this pub on the outskirts of Bradford centre, but it's worth it. It's one room, but partially divided by one of the original walls. The left hand side has a large screen TV and a pool table. The right hand side has tables, chairs and settles. Good range of real ales on the bar usually involving a Phoenix beer and a Moorhouse's beer plus 3 or 4 guests from other breweries. There were a bunch of 4 or 5 regulars in the bar during my Friday afternoon visit who made me laugh out loud with their very funny, if somewhat none PC jokes and comments. Within 10 minutes I was being chatted to by both the landlord and the regulars. It's a great locals pub where all are welcome as long as you don't mind a somewhat boisterous atmosphere.

Fantastic place. Always a good selection of real ales on. Good starting point for a Bradford pub crawl.
