An L-shaped carpeted room with regular tables, some pew benches and an armchair. Unusual carved backed bar stools, the bar front is painted green with picture and newspaper inserts. A dark red Lincrusta ceiling, lots of wood panelling and a dark patterned wallpaper give a cosy if gloomy feel, it was warm so the wood burner was not in use but I expect it gives cheer on cold days. A dartboard at the front end was being used by a solitary chap who seemed to be practising his check outs, otherwise apart from me there were just four other solitary drinkers perched on stools. An etched window is marked "Rock Ales".
Four handpumps with two in service, Harvey's Sussex Best and Tribute, both at £3 on offer as the landlady told me they were on clearance as the pub was due to shut for a refit. An ok if not especially notable spot, it serves a purpose as there is nothing much else in the immediate vicinity. A rear garden was not visited.

Small, L-shaped, traditional pub with a fairly cosy feel thanks to the old carpet, floral wallpaper and fireplace. A dartboard was visible at one end of the room along with a small selection of games and books. Live music was promoted on various posters and there was a fairly loud soundtrack playing in the background. There was only one other couple in the pub when I arrived so I decided to take my pint to the beer garden and catch the last of the evening sun. The garden could have done with a bit of a clean up as I was forced to move tables after realising that there was dog mess around the feet of the first table I picked.
There were four ales to choose from - Hop Back Summer Lightning, Ringwood Best (£2.90), Ansells Mild and Harvey's Best. The Ringwood I tried was flat and too warm which put me off having another pint before I had to catch my train. Service was muted and quite slow and having purchased my pint I was mysteriously handed a raffle ticket with no explanation as to what this might be used for.
A bit of a disappointment all told, but a few simple changes could make this place worthy of a return visit.

Thwaites Nutty Black, Summer Lightning, Harveys, gkipa. S/L was pretty good, Harveys was dull, rather poor. A locals bar & not a very enthusiastic welcome; their website mentions ‘shuffleboard' but the bar-lady looked dumbfounded when I asked about it, one friendly chap overheard & explained it required an 8ft board that used to emerge on the occasional Sunday. Standard pub furniture, small tv showing racing, dartboard to the right occupied by very young drinkers. This was just a flying visit to Worthing, if I go back I don't think RC will make the list.
