Blue Scrumpy left this review about The North Star

After a Sunday morning walk up the nearby Highdown Hill, we arrived here later in the morning for a swift drink and were not surprised to find an empty pub, especially as food is not served until midday. What did surprise me was the welcome from the barman. No hello or good morning, or how are you, but a straightforward "have you booked". My wife and I both looked around at the empty pub and looked again to see if he was joking. But apparently he wasn't.

Luckily after having established that there would be a table available for us to have a drink, amongst the 50 or so spare tables, we had the choice of Twilighter or Tribute for real ales. Ember Inns appear to have really cut back their ale selection in recent years, but there was at least also a choice of a couple of ciders on handpull - Old Rosie & Devon Mist. A CAMRA discount is offered, but not on the cider.

The interior here is typical Ember Inns, carpeted, open-plan and fairly characterless. I could only ever see me returning here to eat and even then, it would be extremely unlikely as there are better places to eat in the area. As such, we left the pub before the mass hordes of reserved parties arrived, or actually in fact before anybody else arrived at all.
