The pub has undergone a tasteful major refurbishment of the interior and the kitchen.Bringing this, the reported oldest pub in Bognor Regis ,bang up to date. The interior is fresh and clean with some wonderful film memorabilia on the walls.Three different drinking areas, makes this a proper old fashioned pub.It is now open from 10 am until 11pm weekdays.Friday and Saturday 12 midnight(pending approval). At the moment 3 real ales are on offer Bath Gem,Sharps Doombar and Bombadier Burning Gold all sensibly priced at £2.50,£2.60 and £2.60 a pint respectively.More may be added if demand requires it.Though guest monthly ales are anticipated.Ales are kept by a publican with over 40 years of providing top quality cask ales all over the country.Pub re opened on the 25th of May 2018

Established in 1864 the Alex is reported to be one of the oldest pubs in Bognor Regis. This date tallies with the opening of the railway station before the area was developed by Victorian gentry. The advertised opening is 10am so I wasn’t surprised to find three old boys at the bar when I passed through just after 10am on Saturday morning. Two of the four hand pumps were unused so the available cask options were Sharp’s Doom Bar and Bath Ale’s Gem. A standard keg range alongside Amstel was also available and I spotted a general advertisement for food. Whilst the governor was changing a barrel I got to have a look around the T shaped interior to find it to be quite basic. I didn’t venture up the spiral staircase by the entrance. I didn’t see a television and there was no background music playing, but live music was advertised on Fridays from 21:00 and Sundays from 17:00.
At the end of last year the previous long standing tenants were ousted by Enterprise. The rent was reportedly raised by up to £40,000 year on year which made the business unviable. Hopefully the new tenants are on a better deal.

Traditional-looking town pub with interesting interior (what I could see of it) - there appeared to be three pumps on but the trouble was that there was a huge group of noisy blokes hogging the place. It took too long to get served so I ventured elsewhere.

Pub between the station and the beach and on the edge of the town centre.

Spacious, but not over big, its rather old fashioned and traditional, lots of pictures on the walls and the ceiling beams are covered in the large mug collection. It does feel a bit seaside town pub that has seen better days in a way but its also comfortable and tidy.

As suggested, the clientelle was not young, and my 40 something presence bought the average age down somewhat, which is getting rare!

3 real ales on my visit - Doom Bar, Speckled Hen and Courage, which again suggests its nice but just needs that little bit more?

I always liked this pub when I lived here and have eaten here many times in the past and would do so again when next in Bognor.

Very pretty pub from outside despite it's town centre location, flowers etc

Inside is a bit overpowering, has hundreds of mugs hanging from the beams, can't be one empty bit of beam

Same with the walls, covered in advert mirrors, clown convention posters and other memorabilia

The toilets are marked "Bouys" and "Gulls"

Thus the whole effect is a bit twee

However, good part is has 3 draught bitters on, Sussex Gold, Speckled Hen & Courage Best when I visited, plus usual lager, wine etc

Sells food, reasonably priced around £5 to £8, never ate there but some were dining. Sarnies around £3 with salad garnish

Not likely to go to Bognor again, but if I did I would use this pub, despite the tweeness
