The interior is a U-Shaped room around the central serving bar area. It is one of those generic Marston's eatery places, so it has the general red, white and green decor with the odd wall with wallpaper on. There is a wood panelled fireplace at one end of the U, on the raised area and a TV with something on silent at the other. There are some arty things one the wall, but it is nice to see that here, many of the pictures are local photos, cartoons or Victorian prints, so there is a little more interest - there is no real ephemera. The service was really friendly considering they were so busy on New Years Day and the place was rammed with a mixed clientele. There was no music. The food was better than the functional you tend to get at these places.

Beer; tap stuff with Banks's Bitter and MILD on handpull - the Mild was a little flat, so i got myself a bitter, which was fine then created a mix after drinking half of that!

I expected the visit to be completely functional, however, the good service, the better than mediocre food and the fact they had real ale - as well as something interesting on the walls to look at - made it a better visit than i expected.
