Another Marstons Good Beer Guide Tick. I tried a first Sunbeam in here, and this was in great condition.

Lively locals pub on a Saturday Lunch. I think a local football team were in post training recovery.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Royal Oak

Community local, opened out to give a staple-shaped layout, with an acoustic trio playing in the left-hand side lounge when I visited. This, and its larger equivalent in an extension at the other end of the bar, have both been refurbished in a semi-traditional style. A partly covered patio beer garden with a marquee behind can also be found to the right. With three of the five handpumps in use, I found three Banks's beers: Amber, Mild (£3.00) and Sunbeam.

Marstons family friendly community pub going south of the city. Bank of three and a bank of four pulls with Marstons stable beers plus the usual range of kegs. Light bright and comfortable it’s GBG2019 listed

Called into this 2019 Good Beer Guide pub today and found a range of Marston's ales on offer and we tried the Ringwood Shy Giant which we haven't seen before and it was fine. Sat outside in the garden which was pleasant enough although by the road.

Banks's pub, opening out as much as it can be, traditional enough still. Gets busy match days

I liked this place. A good solid pub with the Banks's range. I had the sunbeam which was a decent drink. Friendly service as well.

A respectable and well run Marston's house with four ales on handpump on our visit. We went for the Jennings Queen Bee, which was a good pint. We popped in early Saturday Eve, where we came across a lot of friendly bikers, whether they were regulars or not, I don't know. Prices here were slightly on the steep side, but still their beer was well kept.

This is an attractive terracotta exteriored pub owned by Marstons. Three ales available on my visit – Banks Mild, Original and Jennings Snecklifter – my Snecklifter was good and priced at £2.90. The interior has been modernized in a cream and carpet way but still retains a bit of character, with a few ‘areas’ to enjoy your drink. Child friendly, with a large beer garden to the pubs’ right hand side. Additional features include a well-used dartboard and daily papers.

I’d say it’s a decent place to have as a wildcard for your crawl as it’s handily placed when walking back from the Chindit.

Ale Monster left this review about The Royal Oak

A good traditional red brick suburban corner pub built around the end of the 1800’s I believe, which is owned by Banks’s (Marston’s), it’s definitely a place for a sociable drink with friends rather than a family meal (I don’t think they do food anyway!). This is a small one room pub with a long bar counter dominating the middle of the room. To the left of the entrance is a small area with two flat screen TV’s on the wall and on the right as you enter is a slightly larger extension with a single flat screen TV and a door leading out onto a raised patio with picnic tables. Seating and tables inside the pub are at a premium.

Regular ales are Banks’s Mild and Bitter with two changing guests from the Marston’s portfolio such as Brakspear, Jennings, Ringwood or Wychwood beers. Note that there are six hand pumps three of which are on a little counter on the right of the bar.

This is a great local’s pub with a nice traditional feel to it, I’m surprised this isn’t in CAMRA’s current Good Beer Guide as I’ve personally never had a bad pint in here and all my real ale drinking friends love this place. I think it has been overlooked due to other good pubs such as the Chindit and Combermere being in close proximity.

Open plan, with extension and beer garden. Has some nice memorabilia on the walls. A Banks's pub, which has Bitter and MILD always on handpull, with a guest, last night being Brakspear Honey Bee. For once, the consistent MILD was having an off night, but the Honey Bee, the only Brakspear drink i like, was good. A nice locals pub, one that everyone feels comfortable in - always worth a visit
