This is an end-terrace Banks's pub and night club. The building is a 50s looking plain brick, with white cladding and a black pub frontage (with some yellow), It has been recently repainted. The last time i went in here there were two rooms, with a large lounge at the back (see ROB's review). This back room has now become a night club - originally the 'Pink Flamigo', it is now James'. The pub element is a room to the left on entry. It is a stright room with a pool table at one end. It is in a a salmon colour and wood panel and a few prints hang on the walls. The TV wasn't on and there was no music. Most seating is black perimeter, with a few chairs. Service was fine and a few mature regulars were in. Beer; no real ale, usual keg stuff with a decent enough Banks's MILD. Better as a pub since the refurbishment, but nothing for the real ale drinker.

I walked in through the first door into the porch area, over the second set of doors is a sign that says "Crackheads F**k Off To Hell". Oh great I thought, but I went in anyway. I was half expecting a scene from "Toughest Pubs in Britain" so I was slightly disappointed to find a huge shabby lounge with a couple of real crusties sat at the tables and a couple more at the bar. I went to the bar which had Banks's Original & Bitter on handpump. The barmaid finished serving a person at the other end of the bar and then went back to reading her paper. After a couple of strategic coughs she looked up and then started reading again. I thought bollocks to this and left. I suspect the beer was crap anyway. It's a desperate dive, don't go in.

Lunchtime 25 October 2007
Now this is a strange place or rather “strange” clientele. I think there may have been problems here in the past but the present landlord seems to have everything under control. There is a good selection of guest beers in addition to those of the local brewery – all are kept in excellent condition. At the rear is a large room containing pool tables and it may be this that gives the place a certain “oppressive” atmosphere, but this is only an impression and completely unfair as everyone was well behaved. I’m not sure if full meals are served but I can thoroughly recommend the cheese and onion cobs.
