Soup Dragon left this review about Malt Shovel

This is a detached pub. It looks Victorian, with its slightly Gothic dormer windows (with one finial!) although the Sky dish takes something away. It is a cottage style, in cream with blue paintwork and a couple of bay windows flanking the original entrance (now blocked). A side entrance now allows access to the bar at the front and the separate lounge at the back - which was in darkness, so i went in the bar. The bar is a straight room in cream and peach with a bit of red thrown in. A red lino floor sits under the pool table (which there isn't really the room for) and a dart board is on the wall. There is nothing much in the way of pictures, but a TV was on with Britain's Got Talent, followed by Corrie. There was no music. The service was friendly, the clientele a group of locals debating the merits of the latest episode of the 'Street'. Beer; usual tap stuff, with Banks's MILD. No real ale. I had a shandy. One for the locals, nothing for the real ale fan.
