Old Boots left this review about The Underdog

Renamed #theunderdog according to its sign, no cask beer according to WhatPub, as it was closed on a Saturday evening when I was there I couldn't confirm.

This is a modern bar with a front wooden floored bar area and a more cosy area behind. There is a TV but it was turned off. Given that it's just across the road from a Popworld outlet and round the corner from a Yates I'm guessing it's targeting a younger audience. There weren't many in early on a Saturday afternoon.
The six hand pumps had Oakham Bishops Farewell, Hobson Town Crier, Welbeck Abbey Mark's Lager & Lime, St Austell HSD and Fyne Jarl. I went for the Town Crier (£2.94 discounted) which was in good nick.
I thought this was a reasonable place.

Modern bar much as described, suede upholstery and laminate floors, I also had a very decent Bishops Farewell on my visit. Had to explain to the barmaid what Camra was (old man's beer drinking club) when proffering my membership card for the Camra discount.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Dog and Doublet

The Dog and Doublet has received a revamp - and I am not too sure about it. The exterior remains unchanged - it is a modern 50s looking building sandwiched between older ones, with a plain black frontage. There is a rear patio area that now has graffiti art on the walls. The interior is a single room in brick, red, wood floor and that crate wood effect, with booth seating now at the back and arty stools and Chesterfield chairs at the front. TVs with silent news and decent level background music off interest, as does the pop art on the walls. Service here is always good and the clientele mixed. 3 ales on at my last visit with the Bristol Milk Stout being very nice. A good place and more than a semi-regular when in Wolvo.

Decent enough pub when all the Wolves fans had gone to the match. Nothing too strong ale wise.

Seeing Rob Beckett at the Wulfrun Hall, I checked the Good Beer Guide to see what Wolverhampton had to offer. 14 Entries!

This was the nearest.

Modern Looking Pub from the exterior - four real ales and I went for a decent Oakhams Bishops Farewell.

Exceptionally good music!

Al Bundy left this review about The Dog and Doublet

Not too bad a place to be honest. Though its a little place it is friendly and pleasant. 6 handpumps dispensed a good variety of real ales and the stout was lovely. Inside is a longish pub with a small lounge like area at the front with a fire that was roaring away today. The rest of the place is wooden floored with a cavern like area to the rear. A stairs in the middle of the place go somewhere but I didn't go up so I don't know to where.

City Centre bar close to the Civic Hall. One long knocked through room with almost a cellar feel at the rear with the brickwork. There is a cocktail bar outside in the small courtyard.

Not that much seating I expect they are after the standing crowd that would frequent bars like Yates over the road, though it was quite quiet on my Saturday evening visit. 4 real ales, 2 of which were more unusual though slightly warm for my taste.

Ale Monster left this review about Manders Bar

The former Manders Bar has been renamed the Dog and Doublet, thoroughly refurbished and was reopened at the end of May. The interior was previously two small rooms that have been knocked into one narrow but long room. The front half of the room has a dark wood counter along the left wall, a brick fire place with cast log burner in the right wall and high backed burgundy leather chesterfield arm chairs either side. A wood floor directly in front of the counter and carpet in front of the fire place. A flight of stairs (staff only) running left to right divides the two halves of the room, beyond these is an area with a low vaulted ceiling, a second brick fire place with cast log burner in the right wall, wood floor and a DJ booth in the back right corner. Various photos of Wolverhampton and Wolves FC are on the walls towards the front while there are a couple of photos of old British rock bands on the walls at the back such as Led Zeppelin, the Who and the Rolling Stones. In the left wall opposite the rearmost fire place is a door that leads out to a decked courtyard with a classy Benidorm style bamboo and straw bar counter.

Ales on offer during this visit were Enville Ale, Holdens Golden Glow, Purple Moose Dark side of the Moose, Dickensian Nicholas Nickle Beer, Directionless Pale Ale and Abbeydale Orange Wheat. The Dark side was very good. There was an interesting selection of foreign bottled beers behind the bar that one of the young barmen was very enthusiastic about.

Interesting new place with a good selection of ales on offer, the décor is a mix of traditional and modern which in this case works quite well in my opinion. Another welcome addition to Wolverhampton’s slowly growing real ale pub scene (city centre at least), an encouraging start, I shall return soon.
