Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Crown Joules

Very appealing Joule's pub, with a substantial and unusually light - partially opened-out - interior still keeping various different seating / areas on each side of the central servery and in the side rooms. Of course, not all of the seemingly traditional furniture and decor is original, but the brewery has done a good job here. Pleasant front patio under the trees and a larger (and duller) rear outside seating area. Interesting selection of real ales from the nine handpumps, with three of their beers - including the Pure Blonde (£3.00) - and six guests.

Joules seem to have turned this pub around as it was packed when I turned up on a Saturday afternoon. There was some sort of charity event on with some worthless piece of tat being auctioned followed by a group murdering the Cranberries song Zombie. I retreated to the garden to avoid the cacophony. I got a chance to look at the windows from here and decided they were probably fake.
It was so busy I didn't attempt to note all the beers but went for the Joules Kolkata (£3.30) which was in good nick.
I still prefer the Holden's Station but this one is much improved. Score changed from 5 to 8.

Review as Stonegate Pub August 2015
This is a large detached suburban pub owned by the Stonegate pub company. Inside it's a huge open plan carpeted barn with an Island bar. It was quiet on my Saturday afternoon visit. The bar has just two hand pumps with on my visit GK IPA and Hobgoblin Gold. I went for the Hobgoblin Gold (£3.05) which was in good nick but also quite a reasonable beer. I didn't find this place very inspiring, I suspect it's market is younger folk later in the day.

Update: Been a few times since acquired by Joules. The pub has been given a new lease of life and has been revamped in Joules style with plenty of eclectic ephemera and pictures. Seems to attract a mixed crowd now and it has around 8 real ales, three being Joules' own. Never had a bad drink in here, but the food wasnt the best value for money. A definite visit.

July 2010: A large, detached, white rendered building - it looks multi-phased, with a cottage style building having been expanded with a gabled front and corner turret!. It has a front and rear patio area

The interior is massive, open plan around the central bar, with a dart area. The décor is red and a sort of French mustard kind of colour for the walls, fake beams, and a brick fireplace. There are nice moulded windows and there was an eclectic mix of sofas, tables, chairs, stools and bench seats. There was Sky TV and music for the younger clientele. They did a value menu and much of the place was laid out for food. The pub was clean and the service friendly, with a good mix of people, though it wasn’t too busy, unlike its neighbour The Bull, which was crowded due to a quiz.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Pedigree on handpull. Sadly, the Banks’s Bitter and St Austell IPA that were on at my last visit had gone. I simply had a coke.

A place to pop in for one, rather than a night’s stay.

Old Boots left this review about The Crown Joules

Large nicely refurbished if a little forced in trying include a bit of everything. Given the choice and quality of the beer that's a minor quibble and a matter of taste; it is rightly popular. Pretty busy and buzzing along on an early Saturday evening visit. Wolverhampton Camra's country pub of the year.

A decent pub this one and glad we visited it as a wildcard on our Pubs Galore crawl. I was a little hesitant visiting this one as it's a Joules pub and am not a great fan of their beers. This certainly took a turn around as their Joules No. 1 Store Ale was excellent, plus they had a hefty choice of 5 guest beers alongside 4 of their own. Joules also have a decent portfolio of some interesting traditional pubs and this one definitely fits the bill. The pub was busy on our Friday Eve visit and the customers were of mixed age and all seemed quite respectable.

Will Larter left this review about The Crown Joules

Now owned by Joules, and there's some evidence that the name of the pub has changed to The Crown Joules, which, like all puns, loses its charm with repetition. The pub itself, despite having been opened out into one large room surrounding the central bar, is rather attractive, with some interesting features such as the window glass, which may be original – or then again, may be not. The pub was certainly vibrant on our early evening visit towards the end of a lengthy pub crawl and some of the locals engaged me in conversation when they saw me taking photos of pump clips. They decided this was interesting rather than sad, so I was happy to chat with them for a few minutes, and hoped that they would join us on Pubs Galore! There's a vast range of Joules beers on offer, which I know are not everyone's cup of tea, but they suit me and I was very happy with my Slumbering Monk. For those otherwise disposed there are also quite a few guests (see photos).

Ale Monster left this review about The Crown Inn

This is a nice Victorian pub with stone mullioned bay windows on the ground floor and decorative scrolled stone lintels on the first floor windows, it is a former M&B pub that has been recently acquired by the Stonegate pub company. The interior is now open plan but there are two distinct areas, on the right of the room as you enter is the public bar area, this is up a step or two and has an island bar counter protruding from the back wall, a dominating brick fire place in the right hand wall which is topped with a brick arch that almost reaches the ceiling, above the fire place is a large flat screen TV, some standard pub furniture with a couple of leather sofas, fake looking beams and various paintings on the walls. To the left of the main entrance is more of a quiet dining lounge area with more authentic looking beams, a lovely cast iron fire place with floral ceramic tile surround, green fabric bench seats and a hand full of more modern chairs, there is a second large flat screen TV on the wall near to the entrance. In the back right corner of the bar area is a door which leads out to a gravel area with a wooden band stand type construction and a half dozen picnic tables. I believe there is a function room at the back of the pub but I have not seen inside.

Regular ales are Marston’s EPA, Banks’s Bitter and Mild with no changing guests although I was told that this selection will soon change now that Stonegate have bought the pub. The Mild on this visit was spot on but unfortunately judging by other recent visits the quality is variable.

This is a decent family pub with a community feel, it’s a bit foody for my taste and there is better drinking pubs nearby, but I still pop in and have one occasionally for a change of scenery and the regulars are friendly enough.
