Hard to review - no one in the front bar and the lights off. I thought it was closed.

But the side door was ajar and there was life in the rear room - although I think 3 out of the 4 people present lived there.

They are proud of being cask mark accredited for 15 odd years continuously and they are in the good beer guide. HPA was in good condition.

Did feel like I had burst into someone's front room.

Need to come back when busier.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Chindit

Very traditional corner pub retaining two separate bars separated by a central servery - a plain room with limited seating and the darts area at the front and a smaller, more comfortable lounge at the back. Just a couple of Ossett beers on the five handpumps on each counter - Yorkshire Blonde and White Rat (£3.50), but this was in excellent shape.

Still with the two bar layout, an open room with furniture round the sides to rear or right, more of the same but with darts and bigger screen to the front or left, definitely a locals pub. Four well kept beers and a draught cider on, beer from Titanic, Rat, Enville and Wye Valley. Interesting art works on the rear service corridor.

The pick of the pubs in Chapel Ash. A choice of 4 beers on my visit. I went for Saltaire Gold and my old man had Hopback Summer Lightning. Both were well kept. Had a good chat with the Landlord who knew his stuff.

Ale Monster left this review about The Chindit

This is a brilliant traditional 1950’s pub which was originally an off licence and is now owned by Enterprise Inns. The pub has two rooms and assuming the front of the building is the long side where the entrance is, the public bar is on the right and the sports bar is on the left, both rooms are accessed by a central entrance. The public bar has a small bar counter in the back left corner, carpeted floor, a large brick fire place with a modern gas fire in the right hand wall and a large mirror above, patterned fabric bench seats which are predominantly burgundy and brewery memorabilia on the walls. The sports room has a small bar counter set in the right hand wall which connects to the public bar counter, a central pool table, large brick fire place in the back wall with a modern gas fire, a large flat screen TV above the fire place, various sports and 60’s music memorabilia on the walls. There is a rear corridor that also links the two rooms and leads to a large enclosed paved patio on the right of the building. The reason for the unusual name of the pub is nicely explained in the review by Anthony Collis below.

Regular ales are Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale and Enville Ale with two changing guest beers usually from the West Midlands or neighbouring counties which on this occasion were Salopian Shropshire Gold and Titanic Captain Smith’s (GBG 2012 and Cask Marque). I sampled the Shropshire Gold and the Captain Smith’s which were both in excellent condition, I find the quality of the beer to be consistently good here, the landlord really knows his stuff. The beer selection is predominantly golden and hoppy as according to the landlord “that’s what the regulars prefer”, which is fair enough.

A cracking traditional working mans pub which is a Good Beer Guide regular for all the right reasons. I’ve visited several times in the last couple of years and I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed. There is no menu but crusty cobs are available from the bar. I have found that the regulars can swing from being a bit clique to friendly between visits but that doesn’t stop me enjoying the great beer.

A pretty dreary exterior hiding a little gem within. This is a two-roomed pub served by a single bar; the rear room (from the main road) is open when the pub is, whilst the front room only gets opened later on in the evening. Four ale pumps of which three were on during my last visit – Enville Ginger, Hop Back Summer Lightning, Broughs Bitter – both the Enville and Broughs were good and priced at £2.90. Wye Valley HPA was a turned clip. The rear bar is cosy and tidy in a mid-70’s social club way, with carpet on the bar front. The left bar has pool and a quizzer. Cobs are available behind the bar. The locals are friendly and willing to engage in conversation – making it feel, again, like a social club. Classic 50’s and 60’s hits courtesy of a radio station piped through the speakers, which suits the pub very well! Basic garden located at the rear. Toilets are clean and well-maintained, even the copper is shining. The pub name celebrates the Chindits, who were an allied Special Force formed who fought behind enemy lines in North Burma between 1943-1944. Note that the pub opens at 4pm on weekdays.

I’m fond of this place and always make an effort to plod out here when in the town.

Thuck Phat left this review about The Chindit

The Chindit's exterior isn't hugely inviting but it's worth looking beyond that as the 'lounge' area is warm, comfortable and friendly. It's awash with boozer conversation covering decent pubs, beers, drinking towns, curry houses etc. It's a nice place to be. There's also a more spartan bar area with a pool table.
Four handpumps with Enville Ginger Beer, which was good, Wye Valley HPA and an excellent Hop Back Summer Lightening on. All those we had were in top nick and there's clearly a lot of care taken to get the quality right here.
Well deserves it's GBG 2011 entry and I'll certainly return.

The interior has been well described by previous reviewers,I would only add that the brass piping in the gents was gleaming, the white porcelain was immaculate and the facilities were a pleasure to use.
Ale is the focus here and the four handpumps dispensed quality ,with Enville Ginger and Wye Valley HPA as regulars while Oakham's Bishops Farewell was later replaced by Hopback Summer Lightening as the seasonal guests.Rightly a GBG regular.
I found the atmosphere to be friendly ,with most customers gathering close to the bar with the Dogs Bollocks mirror. An easy place to strike up a conversation and well worth seeking out ,I will certainly visit again possibly as a double header with the Combermere Arms nearby.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Chindit Inn

The exterior of this late 1940s pub can be seen in the picture. Two rooms. The front room has a pool table and Beatles memorabilia on the walls. The rear room has a load of beer memorabilia. The music played was of a decent level. The service was functional and the small clientele was more mature, but it is a locals place. Beer; well tap tosh, still without MILD. The four handpulls served up two Titanics, Iceberg and White Star, along with a decnet Hereford Pale Ale and the superb Enville Ale. The pub has grown on me a little more, the beer is very good, however, i still feel like i am tolerated rather than welcomed. Will visit a little more often

ROB Camra left this review about The Chindit Inn

L shaped pub split into two rooms. The front room has a pool table and Beatles posters on the walls. The rear room has a load of framed beer adverts along with a fantastic Wychwood Brewery mirror with the usual picture of the dog on it, the slogan underneath is “The Dogs Bollocks – brewed exclusively for sad bastards”. They also have live music on Fridays. Eight handpumps on the bar doubling up in each room selling Enville Ale, Wye Valley HPA and two from Ironbridge, Gold and Golden Gate. Got talking to the friendly landlord/barman about Ironbridge beers as the two I had here were better kept than any I've ever drunk in Ironbridge itself. It's a fine little pub and well worth the walk from the city centre.
