Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The County

Substantial pub with a solid brick exterior and two large bars. The lounge has a faux-rustic appearance, with a slightly odd mix of Tudor-style exposed timbers, art deco lighting and semi-traditional furniture. The public bar is of similar size and houses the pool table and dartboard, but is furnished and decorated in a much more modern style. Three handpumps on the lounge bar counter, with just the seasonal Old Spooky Hen (£3.00) available when I visited (with reversed Wye Valley clips for HPA and Butty Bach also noted). All OK so far as it goes, but alarmingly quiet on a Wednesday evening.

A dull, imposing building holding a pub over two rooms with a central bar. There’s a nasty grey-coloured public bar with a pool table and a much nicer lounge. Brilliantly dated in the lounge but in a way that’s almost now heritage – straight out of a late 60’s/early 70’s mock Tudor refurb with ‘aged’ wonky ceiling beams, white walls and an admittedly impressive painted County coat of arms in the far corner. Desmond and I were especially taken with the mad multi-coloured light fittings above the bar. Friendly guvnor but sullen locals sat round the bar made it feel like the end of the world was nigh. One ale, a fair Wye Valley HPA. Given the amount of boozers nearby, I wonder how many will still be with us in 5 years.

Pub now regularly sells Wye Valley HPA alongside two (usually) interesting guest beers. Quiz night is Thursday and kicks off at 2100

A detached 1930s style undressed brick pub

The interior has two rooms, but they have separate entrances and a connecting corridor at the back of the pub (where the bogs are). The bar is to the right when entering from the main door. It is in red wood panel and white, with ed leather seating and looks a bit 70s in a way. It has a dart board, pool table and a free bar footy game, as well as a TV, which has Sky Sports on it. There isn't too much in the way of pictures in this room and there was no music. The lounge is tidier as you would expect and is in white and fakey beam decor. There are some prints on the walls here, but it is accessed by a side door, not the front entrance. They do food at the pub and i assume they serve it here, but i have not tried it. The service was fine and the regulars seem to use the bar, while the lounge seemed wo have a wider clientele. This is the room that has the two real ale handpulls, so make sure you ask if you go in the bar!

Beer; tap stuff with a fine enough Banks's Dark MILD. Two handpulls which had Timothy Taylor Landlord and Wells Bombardier.

I like this pub. A nice town centre place with all the pub games, the rarer Banks's dark MILD and a couple of real ales. I have been in a few times, but always lose at the bar footy!
