Ian Mapp left this review about The Sandwell

Just an observation - but I would say that this place has benefited by the closure of the JDW around the corner.

This place was packed on a Tuesday afternoon with groups of old boys on smooth pour or guinness.

Typical large chain style city pub.

Four handpulls, three turned around and in the heat, I was rather pleased that the only one with a forward facing pump clip - was off. No TT Landlord for me.

Birra Moretti for £4.10.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sandwell

Now the only vaguely traditional pub still open in the centre of West Bromwich, with the 'spoons and Interceptor accounting for the remaining trade. This one has also been opened-out and refurbished in an anonymous semi-modern style, with the two pool tables being the main thing to note. Thankfully, real ale is still available, with Robinson's Trooper and Backyard's seasonal Project Beach Ball (£2.45, and in reasonable shape) available from two of the three handpumps. NB - No food available, unlike many town-centre Stonegate pubs.

Graham Coombs left this review about The Sandwell

A large town centre pub with one big room. Pool and darts can be found at one end and there are several large sports TV screens around, as well as an unsurprising amount of West Bromwich Albion memorabilia. Despite painted signs outside claiming 'local cask ales', the draught offerings at time of visit were Brains Lovely Tackle, Hobgoblin and Bombardier! Condition was ok though and it did feel like a proper pub.

The old Goose has reverted to its original name The Sandwell and it still has the same clientele. They do offer a Camra discount except on "Cask Ale Tuesday" when it is an incredible £1.75 a pint! There were 2 beers on when I called in. I had Froth Blowers Barking Mad which was fine. There is also a loyalty card scheme and the seventh pint is free. All in all the pub may be a little rough around the edges but worth popping in!

Soup Dragon left this review about The Goose & Granite

An attractive Rococo style corner building, with the upper storeys being in yellow and white moulded stone, with nice sash windows. The pub frontage is in white, with pilasters, neo-classic entrance and large plain windows. The interior has a single L-shaped room that is in coffee and heavey wood panel, with a splash of red. It seems to compare itself to the Spoons, as it has info panels on the walls and a 'comparethebeer.com' chalk board showing the prices between the two. Like Spoons, it was under-staffed, two bar-people struggling with the number of people waiting and failing to see the completely ratted woman swigging super-strength lager from a can under the table. The actual service was friendly. The place is populated by foody tables and chairs, although it wasn't doing food and it was pretty busy with a more mature clientele. TVs on the walls were showing racing. Beer; no real ale, just the usual keg stuff with an OK Banks's MILD. A Spoons style place, yet without real ale and food - not worth going out your way for.
