UPDATE: The place wasn't on the up - it has since closed and now has been demolished

This place has suffered a lot from a succession of gaffers, and the place even experimented with Thai food for a while. The latest have given the outside a lick of paint - so this 19th century building, extensively remodelled in the 60s, now looks a lot cleaner. It has a beer garden.

There are two rooms, a lounge and bar. The bar has been cleaned up, with sanded down wood seating and tables - even got cushions! There is a TV and pool table. Decor is plain, with varios memrabilia and pictures on the walls

Beerwise; usual stuff, but the old Thaekston's MILD has gone from the regular handpull. There was Abbot, Bombardier and Holden's Golden Glow - which was ok.

The place seems to be on the up a bit. It serves its own estate really, so hopefully it will carry on. I will pop in from time to time to see.

it is a real shame about the woodman closing, it was a out of the way but willing to go for that extra 10min walk. the woodman had and i believe still has got great potential to become a community loved, local pub. the main issue that lets the woodman down is the residents are not of a young to middle age bunch - it is mainly a residented by 70-90yr old OAP's that try and manage to live on there own with no support and fail, and the only thing that brings them enjoyment is to close down the local pub by complaining about noise and the traffic to and from the pub.

the only things i can suggest to make this place work is 1. get the OAP's involved (i can just image good old ethel dancing on that table with her zimmerframe) 2. there is a places called OAP retirement homes or 3. Turn your hearing aid off and close your curtains at night.

the woodman does have great potential to be a heart of the community pub as there is big enough space for bands in the lounge, for meals and a wide variety of things.

hopefully the woodman will re-open and maybe if they brought a piano and get good old tom from num40 playing the piano, even a bit of bingo the place could be SWINGING BABY

Now closed due to small minded residents that would rather see it as an overpriced Thai restaurant than a local pub where local residents can gather!!!

Im sorry all. This pub is now closed which is a shame. The locals stopped using it just as the management were trying to make a great go of it. For all the entertainment which was provided, the locals complained about noise instead of getting behind a local landlord!! Its now for sale.. A great shame!

We heard the Woodman Inn were now doing Thai food and that they allowed children in. We had never been to this pub before and were pleasantly surprised we had a great time. The Thai food was out of this world. My hubby said the XB was the best he'd had in ages, the kids played out in the beer garden which was really secure so we were able to stay and relax. The staff were really welcoming, I can't understand why this place isn't packed out, they should do some advertising, It must be Cheslyn Hays most hidden place. We will go again.
