Decent pub with a couple of friendly locals in. Cracking pint of Wainwrights. Also Sunbeam and Amber on offer. Happy to have called in.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Royal Oak
Modernised pub with a fairly new coat of paint externally and an opened-out 'L'-shaped interior. Refurbished in a semi-traditional style, although the pillar-box red leather-look covering to the banquette seating is a bit much. Two banks of four handpumps on each side of the counter, with Banks's Amber (good value at £2.30), Boon Doggle and Razor Back from Marston's plus Courage Directors available as a guest.

July 2011: This pub is a detached Banks's pub, with a now cream painted brick exterior. The pub area is in fact a cream rendered extension on the front of a house, which remains the living area and the backyard has become a two-levelled patio area with lots of flower baskets and large pots.
The interior is open plan L-shaped room around the serving bar. The decor is white, white walls (half plain and half wallpapered)with a wood rail, white ceiling with a chocolate moulded cornice. There is a carpet at one end and red tile flooring at the more 'bar' end where there is a dart board. There is a brick fireplace. There are lots of old local and mining photos and prints on the walls and there are a couple of TVs, mainly used for sport and often not on. There is a traditional feel about the place, with a piano and brick pillars to support the roof. The pub now does a general and good value menu - i have eaten here a few times and it is decent enough - well, the steak is anyhow! The seats have been re-covered. Service is always fine and clientele mixed - gets busy, especially on the music nights.
Beer; usual tap stuff, with Banks's Bitter and MILD on handpull. The MILD is excellent. Pedigree seems to be a regular now as well and there is usually a guest
This is a good local pub, always a nice pint and decent atmosphere

Used to be a great pub but as with all things, time moves on. Its best years are behind it, and seems to suffer with each new landlord.
Quieter than it used to be, hence why we stopped going in and moved 'home'.
Beer not as good as it used to be.
