Soup Dragon left this review about The Royal Exchange

A detached pub with beer garden at the rear. The pub is in pink and white render (repainted since my previous visit where it looked tired) and has a portico in front. The pub has some modern brickwork but has a Victorian building at its heart.

The interior has a couple of rooms served by separate bars - you cannot see the one room from another. Over the years i have been here a few times, but have never know the lounge to be open. The bar room has also been refurbished since my last visit. The bar is to the left on entry. The walls are cream and brown half and half, with a couple of all red walls, a white ceiling and with a toffee and yellow chessboard floor (with red tiling around the bar). There is a large centre post to support the ceiling. There is a pool table and there were a couple of TVs showing some Sky footy, with general music in the background at a decent level. There were some arty pictures on the walls juxtaposed with some beer posters. The service was very friendly, the lady knocking-up a tea for Mrs Soup. A couple of regulars came in, but it was quiet in general on our Saturday lunchtime visit.

The beer: usual tap stuff, with Banks's MILD smooth, which was OK. There was no real ale.

The pub has had a revamp since my last visit and looks all the better for it. Sadly, the beer choice is a little basic for my personal taste, but otherwise it seemed decent enough for a swifty.
